Are there others on these boards that only go every 5 or so years to Disney. We went in 1999 and then went this summer. I prefer to spend my money taking my kids to see alot of other places besides Disney. I am sure that I may get flamed here but we went in 1999 when kids were 5 and 7 and just so cute and adorable and it was a blast. Then we just went this summer -they were 11 and 13 but it just wasn't the same -we had fun and all- don't get me wrong but there just wasn't as much to do -we got to do all the new rides etc and it was fun but I doubt we'll go back-

Anything that I ever think about spending a significant amount of money on, I think, I'd rather spend this money in Disney. Any time I think of going on a vacation I think, there's no where I'd rather go than Disney. I have no kids. I was fortunate enough to have parents that loved taking my sister and I when we were younger. I just got back from my first trip since 2003 and three years is the longest I've gone without a trip to DisneyWorld since 1994. TAll that being said, you're speaking a foreign language to me...especially the "there just wasn't as much to do" part. I believe that everyone can and should have their own opinions and I'm sure you'll have some people agree with you but I strongly disagree.

Not everybody is completely in love with Disney, most of us here are. Everyone is different , therefore likes different things. I know me and my dh enjoy spending almost every penny of our income tax to go to Disney. We went for the first time in 05 and are going again in March 07, and plan to do every other year there after :goodvibes

We're taking the kids (ages 4,4,almost 3) this September for a WDW trip, and then probably again in summer 2009 with their grandparents....but after that I doubt we'll go back until dh and I are "empty nesters". There are just so many other places I want to go, and we can only afford a "big" vacation once every two years; not to mention the fact that dh has limited vacation time. I also can't picture us going when the kids are teens; at the risk of sounding blasphemous (sp?) I'd rather to a beach vacation or go to a National Park to do some hiking when the kids are that age.

I totally agree with the "speaking a foreign language" part. DH and I can't seem to take the kids anywhere else. We love it, and since this may be one of the last vacations we take with all of us together and the kids being "kids", we've decided to also take a day and take our 17 yo to SeaWorld. She's into marine life and wants to be a vet so we need to do it now. She probably won't be with us after next year :guilty: . We don't get how other people "don't get " Disney. It's another world. We forget where we are. We forget the stresses of everyday life. It's just a magical place for us, and I doubt that will ever change. DH and I look forward(with guilt, of course) to the first time we can enjoy a few days at WDW by ourselves. I understand the OP wanting to take their kids other places...esp. if it's somewhat educational..and they can see how other parts of the country live, look, work, etc. I agree with that. But...nothing to do at Disney? That's a new one on me :confused3 :goodvibes

Many people on these boards, myself and family included, are WDW fanatics or enthusiasts. With that said I'am sure there are plenty of people that feel the same way you do but boards like this are mainly a place were people like me and many other of my fellow posters can go and talk about WDW together.

We used to go every 5 years until I finally stayed onsite. After that I was hooked! I go twice a year for two weeks at a time now. We still go on many other vacations over the year so it isn't like we are stuck with one spot. You don't have to only do one vacation a year. You can do 2,3, or more!

I try to go twice a year to disney. My parents were conservative with their money, and had other priorities, so I only got to go in the second grade. I didn't go back until a little over 2 years ago, when I was 23, and it was my daughter's 5th birthday. Since then I have been hooked. We have limited resources, but we go twice a year when there is a bargain. For example, free DDP. It is something to look foward to when I am suffering through the daily grind, being a full time nursing student, single mom, and working full time. If I don't have a disney trip in the works I feel very sad. ..Only 29 days til free DDP and MNSSHP!! Ashlyn doesn't even know we are going! SUPRISE!

I go a couple of times in a row, take a break, go back a couple of times in a row . . . I'm a Disney fanatic through and through, but yes, I like other things as well, and my work doesn't allow me to take vacations often. Taking a break makes each trip that much more special and gives me a LOT to see when I go back!

We (no kids) would go as many times as we could if we had the funds. I've never had the same experience at WDW as the trip before. I like to think of WDW as my second home. A home that I don't get to visit often enough! :sad1:

We are going in April and it will be 5 years since we were there last. 2002 seems so long ago. DH says it will be another 5 years before we go again. I don't know that I can wait that long again. It is very expensive with 3 kids. The youngest is going to be 2 when we go, so the next time will be even more expensive since we will actually have to pay for him then. DH wants to do other things as well. I understand his point of view to some degree, but I love Disney and wish I could go every year.

My family absolutely loves going to Disney & my "kids" are 17 & 13. Do you know
what my 17 (will be 18) year old wants for his High School graduation?? A 10 day trip to Disney (with us of course)!!! I do NOT agree with the "nothing to do"
part. We go from morning till night & we could still go go go. Even if we are riding our favorite rides over & over again or watching the fireworks we always have
something to do. We went last April (also in 99, & 2004) & will go back to give
my son his graduation gift then we may not be back for a few years (college).
But it will just about kill me to not go after next year. My husband & I are also
anxious to go maybe for our 25th anniversary. I love hearing about people that do not have kids & love going to Disney. It brings out the "kids" in all of us!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

While we travel to Orlando each fall, we don't always visit WDW. Our primary objective is to attend Universal's HHN and, while we enjoy WDW as much as the next guy, we like to partake of all the other great area resorts/attractions there are as well. Even when we do stay at WDW every three years or so, we usually only visit one or two of the parks and save the others for the next time; that way nothing gets "old".

As much as we love our fall trip to Orlando, we love even more the amazing experiences we've had all over the US and the rest of the world during our other vacations. WDW is great but it can't even compare to the exciting and breathtaking experiences we've had in other locations.

To each his own, but I can't help feeling a bit bad for those that exclusively vacation at WDW because they miss out on so much else the world has to offer them. As long as they're happy though, so be it.

We take various vacations to different places.

Disney and Nashville normally are the two places we go most often.

We thought this coming September was going to be it for awhile to WDW, but we are thinking of a 1 to 2 day trip in October, and another one for about 3-4 days in March.

But after March, it will be on hold. My dream vacation is to go to Alaska, and will start planning and saving for that after March.

Well, we don't have kids, but every time we start to plan a trip somewhere else, we decide our money is spent best at Disney. So, instead, every five years we plan a nice trip elsewhere. (yeah, backwards, I know). Our five year trip we are planning now is to Sandals! I've always wanted to go there.
We never run out of things to do at Disney. Everytime we go we do something different and unique from the last time. That may be a tour, a fancy dinner, etc. There's so much to do, every trip can be new and interesting.

Before we moved to Florida, DH and I would go once a year to WDW and once or twice a year to another location (crusie, Caribbean, Mexico, California, Las Vegas, etc..) It worked out well since I was a travel agent and got good discounts:)

We love Disney and usually do two years on w/AP's and a year off. My son somehow goes every year thanks to Grandma. We do other things, DC isn't far and we make quite a few day trips throughout the year as well as to Williamsburg, VA. Last year we went to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite (want to go back) and still managed a quick Christmas season trip to WDW. We have family in So. California and as I'm writing this I'm waiting for my wife and son to return from 2 weeks there (No Disneyland). We moved from NC to MD last year and still have a place in Myrtle Beach where we use to spend our weekends (I miss a warm water beach, I cant go in the water in MD, it's too cold). To end my ramblings, we do trips other than Disney but with my son being eight, nowhere else gives us as much bang for the buck.

DH is not as enthusiastic about WDW as me of course. Were there in April, DH attended a convention, and he suggested we go back in December to see the decorations. Our last trip was in 2003. In the mean time we did some local things and went to Aruba in 2005. The great thing about Disney is once you pay for the trip you don’t have to spend more money to ride rides and find additional entertainment. Just my thoughts. The funny thing is DH is already planning our next vacation, non Disney :sad2:
I think he is doing this to keep us from going back again so soon!!! LOL!!! :rotfl:

We have 2 young girls who love WDW, so it is very easy for us to always have something to do on a trip. We do go other places, the beach at spring break, weekend trips to the Smoky Mtns, trips to zoos, aquariums, etc. We are travel people and that is what our extra money is spent. We love WDW because everyone has a good time and we feel like we get our moneys worth.
