Is it just me or has the food gotten better?

Just spent 5 glorious days at DLR...never took one day off from the parks like we had planned, only mini breaks for a quick nap and shower in the afternoons. The trip could not have gone better in any way, and the meals were certainly an added pleasant surprise. We ate at Cocina Mexican, Wine Country Trattoria (my fave with some wine and the ELP), Buzz, Bengal, Rancho del Zocalo (EXPENSIVE! but good), Storytellers, Pacific Wharf, Carnation Cafe, Goofys and we were lucky enough to score two waterside meals at Blue Bayou and stuff our faces with desserts on the Balcony for Fantasmic. ALL the meals were good, some better than others, but all good! DH was particulary surprised as he is a WDW compare-er, and he was surprised how much he enjoyed all the food. We also used the "Dine in the Magic" plan, which was a good way to get our budget figured out in advance.

Anyways, in lieu of writing a lenghty trip report (it would mainly say we rode Buzz and Space A LOT - DH's faves :teeth: Thank god for AAA fastpasses) I was curious to know how everyone else thought of the food at DLR in general. Were my tastebuds blinded by the 50th pixie dust? It all was good to me!!

I enjoy the food at the DLR. Everywhere from the parks to the hotels to DD. I've always had good prime rib at blue Bayou, and I've enjoyed the Pacific Warf salad and soup bowls, the wine at DCA, soup at the house of Blues, Breakfast and brunch at Brennan's. And I can swoon over the bleu cheese burgers at Taste Pilot's grill (although the ordering process leaves me cold with those kiosks). I like the soup and salad at Carnation Cafe and the pasta at Pizza Port and the Mexican food at Rancho del Zocalo is actually pretty good.
Anyway, I enjoy the food and think that it is pretty good all over the DLR.

I love the food at Disneyland. I think it is better than WDW food but if I said that over on the other side of the board I would get blasted! For instance people rave about the burgers at Pecos Bills in MK which I think taste like school cafeteria burgers and every time I eat one I think about all the folks eating burgers at Taste Pilots thousands of miles away! Don't get me wrong, I have had some great meals at WDW I just find that the overall food at Disneyland to be better quality. It is more expensive but worth it in my opinion. Also, love the food at Goofy's whereas I think Chef Mickey's is hit or miss. Maybe I just love Disneyland food more because it's more familar I don't know.

Before 2001, I looked forward to dining at Goofy's Kitchen (mostly for the character experience -- I think it got much better once it moved), and perhaps the Blue Bayou, but dining at Disney was not something I got too excited about. Now, I have trouble planning my PSs because there are more good places to eat than I have time for, and a few recommended places I haven't tried yet. Although, I would still love a Spoodles at DTD...

I agree that the food has gotten better. There is also a lot more variety I think. The sweetpea and I were there just a few days ago and I had a wonderful Asian Chicken Salad at Pizza Port while she opted for a small salad and the breadstick. The sweetpeas food was good, but my salad was yummy. A few years back I would have be scared to try anything other than a corndog. But now, it seems that there are better items to choose from than not. We actually look forward to eating when we go now.

I totally agree with you. In the past 3 years, my DH, DDs (ages 6 and 9) have quite enjoyed our dining experiences at DL. (Before that, I just have memories of soggy bland burgers.) I love Whitewater Snacks at the GCH. DH loves the Montecristo sandwich at Blue Bayou, DDs love the kiddie part of the buffet at Goofy's Kitchen. DH and I enjoy the Mexican food at Rancho del Zocalo. All of us also enjoy the bread soup bowls at the Pacific Wharf.
