Taking Robvia's advice, we want to be at Universal Studios at 8:30am to avoid the crowds as much as we can. I also plan to have my tickets in my hand.

4 Adults
4 Kids- Ages 2, 4, 7 and 15

DH was against going in July because we know it's going to be hot. *However*:

1. We are going early in the morning.
2. We plan to be leaving US by 1:00pm (maybe after lunch) and headed back to the resort. We won't be returning...just relaxing at the resort the rest of the day.

Do you think the Kids will be OKAY at between 8:30am-11:30am (lunch time, and may head out after lunch)?

Thanks!

Others will respond, but Yes, you'll be fine.

The parks open at 08:30am in July, but it's not posted anywhere, just happens. So you can actually arrive at 08:00am. Even though you will have magic keys, many onsite guests show up early so they can get front seat rides on the coasters and ride Pteranondon Flyers before the kid rule.

At noon is when it gets burning hot out. The sun is overhead, heats up the concrete, and you'll be dripping with sweat. You'll know it's time to leave because the walkways will become packed, and the idea of a pool will sound much better. The one thing you can do at this point is go on the water rides, get soaked, then head back. Or you take a 2 hour lunch at Mythos, watch the Sinbad show, walk thru Posidens Fury, then leave. Bring sun tan lotion and keep putting it on.

we are trying a different approach this time... we are staying onsite so we will enjoy the resort in early day...head to the room about 2 get cleaned up and have something to ear around 3;30 then head to the parks...we are hoping around 4 that its not as hot...anyone know if its cooler later in the day then early in the morning..with the sun going down we thought this would be better...

It is still very hot at 4:00 pm... I would go back closer to 6 or 7 so you can enjoy the evening at the parks... A lot of people will be leaving since they have been there all day also, so your evenings should be a breeze....

is late afternoon hotter than early morning...i would think the sun would start going down...im getting nervous now of the heat.....

Late afternoon is hotter than early morning because the ground has heated up. I wouldn't worry about the heat in the afternoon, but rather rain. You see, the hot sun heats the ground, pulls the moisture up into the air, and it rains around 4pm. Sometimes it happens earlier, sometimes later. The rain lasts until about 6pm, then it stops and you can visit the parks at night. The sun doesn't go down until about 8pm. I'd say 7pm is when you can head back to the parks for the evening.
3 hours is a lot of time. Most people don't realize this, they think you have to spend an entire day in the park. That's true for Disney because they have pre-shows and the rides have long lines. But for Universal with a magic key, you can get a lot done in 3 hours.

it's not the heat, it's the humdity and the heat that is intense for those of us who aren't used to it...end of June last year in the 90 percentile range-yuck.

better than the weather you're getting now!:rolleyes1

I always laugh when I hear people from the north saying to bring on the heat! I live in Miami and I consider Florida weather perfect from December until March.Highs in the 60's and 70's and lows in the 40's and 50's.I understand your cold is serious cold and lasts for months, but I can't see how anyone can like Florida from May until September with highs in the 90's and 90% humidity and almost daily rain!!

how long do the thunderstorms usuallylast???does this make the restaurants crowded around that time cause everyone is trying to stay out of the rain..is this the norm everyday????

I totally agree :thumbsup2 Florida weather sucks from like May-mid November. I look forward to the winter/early spring weather :rotfl2: The heat and humidity just sucks otherwise.

I do! :yay: I am ALWAYS cold...anything under about 76 degrees and I'm chilly/cold. I get tired of being cold all the time. Living in PA, i just accept the fact that from Sept. to May, I'm cold. Yes, I hate it. Yes, we plan to move to Fla, but we have a 'plan' and we're stickin' to it (so far....apt to change at any time!) I never mind the heat and humidity (actually, i prefer humidity cuz it keeps me warm)....i am just a "hot" weather person.....maybe it has something to do with having an early August birthday?? :confused3 But, as I tell my friends, i will take 3 months of stiffling hot and humid over 9 months of cold anytime! :thumbsup2

3 months???? Hee heee:rotfl: Try 9 months of stiffling hot and 3 months of absolute heaven. Seriously it is in the high 80's low 90's right now. I would NEVER go back up north though. It's GREAT. Except my front door is revolving. Thank goodness for the spare bedroom. The company never ends.:confused3

I grew up in North Carolina, but have lived in Florida for the past 10 yrs. I love it here from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st. :sunny: The only days I don't care for are the rare days, when it gets down to 50 deg. & below. Those days are for staying in & making homemade soup. :stir:

For those going to the parks in the summer, we don't normally hit peak temp. until around 2 pm. (That's in Tampa. I don't remember Orlando being much different though.) The thunderstorms follow within a couple hrs., & last about 30 min. to an hour. After the storm, it does cool down some. I know those on vacation would rather there be no thunderstorms, but to those of us who live here, it's a welcome respite from the heat. I always think touring after the thunderstorm is quite pleasant.

Tam,

If memory serves me correctly, i believe those thunderstorms are about a 4pm occurance??? I remember being at MK a few years ago and you could set your watch by it

Yes, 4pm, we call it the Sprinkler System.

Sometimes they happen earlier at 3pm, but not often. 4pm is the norm.

By 7pm they're gone and people can visit City Walk and Party. It's kinda cool to come back to the parks after a rain storm because the ground is cool and the crowds are light.

What you don't like taking an afternoon shower? :rotfl: As robvia noted, they do occasionally occur earlier. As a matter of fact, I used to work at a job a few yrs. ago that required me to be outside between 3:15 & 3:45 pm weekdays. You guessed, I go soaked almost every day. :sad2: I finally wised up & got me a long rain slicker & some duck boots. That's what we called them anyway.
