Is it horribly hot and crowded in August?

How hot and crowded will it be in August at DL? We're considering going there before the 8/20/05 repositioning cruise so we'd be there probably on Friday August 19th. Is it comparable to WDW?

It should be pretty crowded all Summer. It will also most likely be hot, but it's not as bad as WDW in August. The humidity is minimal in Southern California, so it doesn't feel quite as hot.

And also, don't the evenings tend to cool off a little in So CA? At WDW it stays hot and sticky in August all night long with very little cooling.

Hi kpgclark!

We were at DL last August (late in the month). It wasn't bad at all! We just took water bottles in backpack and re-filled them at the water fountains. Didn't have really long lines for most things because of fastpasses. We followed the suggestion of someone on these boards and started off in MK early then went to CA Adventure when MK got crowded. I didn't think it was nearly as hot as it gets around Washington, DC in the summer.

As a 40 year Disneyland local i can tell you late August will be crowded and most probably hot.

We are also going before the 20th cruise and are prepared for it to be crowded. But since we go once a year we are just planning on riding what rides we want to and just enjoying the 50th celebration.
And yes it can be hot in August, but nothing like Florida hot.

We were at DL last August (2nd week of the month) and it was the hottest trip I have ever had to DL (I have been to DL at least 12 times - lost count!). The coolest day was 95 and the hottest day was easily over 100. I saw more people with sunburns last year than I ever have at DL.

Don't let the lack of humidity in Anaheim fool you. There is something about the So. California air that makes it easy to get a sunburn. I live in No. California (near San Jose) and I can tell you that a 90 degree day in San Jose is much less likely to give you a sunburn than a 90 degree day in Anaheim. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen!

BT Michael is correct about the sunscreen. But, that said, the heat here is RARELY unbearable. Usually August is pleasant, but warm, true. Comapared to other parts of the country anyway. It will for sure be crowded, though. Enjoy your visit, whatever you choose

DL is hotter than hades ... but the humidity is normally minimal, unless there's a storm a brewin'
