Is it hard for you to pronounce your own name?

Princess Michelle, I'm with you, babe! ;) I've heard all the pronunciations too, and I pronounce my name just as you do.

OAR-E-L...........how hard can that be?? It can also be spelt Oriel & that is usually pronounced O-RE-L.
I'm glad I've been saying this right, even if only in my mind/email/PM! ;) Of course, you have to know that, the first thought on DISers' minds is, to say AIR-E-L (Little Mermaid). ;)

I think anyone that lives in the Boston area that gives their kid a name with "R's" in it are just plain mean. :(
;)
Jeff, I kinda wonder about your Chikaga accent on Bab's and Jan's. Or, is it the 'ah' sound? Bob and Bab, to me, are 2 different sounds. Same as John and Jan. Trust me about that, too! My Dad is John, my FIL is Jan. ;) A little further North of us tho and, you might detect this tone/dialect. ;)

Here's one for all of you ~ How would YOU pronounce ARAUZ? ;) It's a last name, btw.

:)

I don't say my name much but I never say it right, I pronounce it Geeeeeeeele like Dale with a G but it is real G A al like mail with a G, i think you all get what I mean, either way you look at it I hate my name:(

Kitty's real easy to pronounce but when I was little and trying to pronounce my "real" name (Elizabeth).......now that was another story!!!:jester: :bounce:

No problem for me to say "Schlicht", but you do NOT want to hear others say it!!:p

No problem's with my first name. Sherry is pretty easy to pronounce! :teeth:
I do get it misspelled all the time and THAT drives me nuts!!

Nope, but most people I know cannot get my last name right, even after I pronounce it several times.

Pronounce, no ... spell, yes.

It's TWO T's, not one. M A T T H E W

It annoys the living crap out of me when someone spells it with one T.

Of course, people always butcher the name of my employer ... Beaulieu. It's pronounced Bow-u, but I've heard it pronounced every conceivable way people can wrap their tongue around each letter in that name. Bow-lou, By-lou, Bay-lou, Boo-loo, Boo-low, and I'm sure other's I'm forgetting.

Yes Shannon, I experience the same thing. I thought I was the only self-conscious one who felt that way.

No, but everyone else has a problem with my last name.

People say mine all different ways and spell it wrong to.

Sheila

I get Shill-ah (from my Boston friends), She-lee-ah, and of course sometimes Shirley or Shelly. I hate when I spend a long time helping a customer out on the phone and they are all appreciative and polite and then they blow it all to hell with, "Thanks, Shelly or Thanks, Shirley!" GRRRRRR!!

Of course, EVERYONE spells it the wrong way- Shelia, another pet peeve of mine. :o In all my years, I have yet to me a "Sheila" who spells it that way.

I have no problem saying my own name...other people can't seem to get it right though.

First name is Johnie. Pronounced John-ee. Since I'm female, I guess people don't want to beleive it's really that. I get Joanie a lot.

Last name is Angell. Just like the heavenly beings with an extra "L". OMG you would not beleive how this gets butchered.

When I used to do customer service, I just wished I had an easy name like Lisa Smith. I would spend 10 minutes with a customer going over my name

Hey Pooh Girl--didn't Shelley Fabares sing a song about you in the 50's? ;) (Johnny Angel?)

My first name is pretty easy, how can you mispronounce Jill? However, at leasst half the time on the phone people think I am saying "Joe". It drives me nuts.

My last name only has 5 letters, but 3 syllables. It's amazing how many people butcher it.

Ok, I'll take your word for it. ;)

I would pronounce it as either "arouse" or "ah-roz", like shiraz without the "sh".

Huh? Dale & mail are pronounced the same way. I assume that Gail is no different, right?

My name is Laurie, but I know people including relatives that call me Laura.
My maiden name is tooo confusing for people. It doesn't sound how it's spelled. My married name is a nice simple short name. LOL, and I'm not changing it back. :teeth:

I usually go by VAL, but my formal name is VALERIE and every once in a while, someone says VALERIA. The nuns in elementary school were particulary prone to saying it that way -- sounded like MALARIA, and I never answered to it! I just ignored them until they got it right.;)

I was always uncomfortable with my last name while growing up. As a kid, up until I was 8 or so, I could not pronounce my "R's". They came out as "W". My maiden name is Andrews. With and "R" right in the middle it was hard to learn. So, even at 20 I would not say my last name if I could avoid it. It always, and still does, sound like "Andwews" to me when I say it.
