Someone has to stop me...I can't stop planning!! DF is cursing the day I found this board because I've gotten so many ideas and those ideas equate to more money! :rotfl: Serioulsy though...lately I've been thinking that I'd really like to have a dessert party on the night of our wedding. At first we decided against it because of finances but now we're at the point (we'll I am  ) where we are soooo far over our budget, what's another $1500??!! :scared1: haha! Anyway...Df is mostly concerned with the the amount of stuff we have planned for our guests...he thinks it may be too much and they may rather just go back to their hotels and stay there after dinner. I feel that an illuminations dessert party would be a most unforgettable ending to our magical day. Here's the timeline...what do you think?

Sun (day before wedding)
Magic Kingdom followed by at 7:40 "Welcome Dinner" at Ohana

Mon (Wedding Day)

11:45am - Guests arrive and are seated at WP
12:00pm - Ceremony
12:30pm - formal photos
1:00pm - Commanders Terrace
2:00pm - Tea and snacks at Gardenview
4:30pm - Dinner at 1900 Park Fare
6:30pm - Bus takes guests back to hotel (to freshen up and change if desired)
8:15pm - bus picks guests back up
9:00pm - Dessert Party
10:00pm - Bus takes guests back to hotel

This is all on top of getting up early and getting ready...so all-in-all about a 14 hour day (16 for the bridal party). Is it too much??

I don't know if this effects your schedule, but Illuminations will be at 9:30 in December. Our DP is beginning at 9:00pm and ends at 10:00pm.

Thanks...that's what I thought but Juliana put 8:30-9:30 on my worksheet...I just checked though and you're right! :thumbsup2

I thought the samething. Our ceremony is at 12 also and
our desert party is at 9:30. I was thinking that maybe the guests
would be tired and I would be extremely cranky because of the
long day. When our guests found out about it, the timeline
didn't bother them one bit. The more I started thinking about it
the more & more I got excited!
To be completely honest...I can't wait for our DP!! :yay:
I 'm looking forward to it more than the reception.

To be honest it is a really long day, but I know if I had the chance of a DP I would go for it. I can't really criticize you on the long day anyway, have you seen my schedule for the whole 3 weeks?:rotfl2:
You are right it's a once in a lifetime opportunity and it would be the perfect end to a perfect day. I'm with you on the budget thing, we are way over too and I still keep adding, must be this board, BLAME THE DIS!

Diane, well I agree with Summer - it looks like a seriously :scared1: long day BUT it IS your wedding day!! the sheer excitement you and Joe have will flow over to your guests and nobody will acknowledge they are exhausted until it hits them the next morning!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: as for the money, that's the problem - it's so easy to just say, ok well this is only... and what's $50 more here?? and so on and so on.....

eBay is being punished - I am NOT buying anything else for the wedding (until the next billing cycle) :rotfl2:

as long as you, Joe and the children won't be living in the streets - make your day everything you want it to be !

Michelle :cloud9:

I don't think its bad... and they have time for a 45min power nap before the dessert party.... I think they will all be so wired on Disney they won't notice. :)

I think you should go for the Dessert Party. Yes, it's a long day but it's just one day. Plus if your guests dont want to come back to the DP later then thats ok. I'm sure most of them will though since for most people, it's a once in a lifetime experience. Good luck :)

PS I agree with you about these boards. I seriously think/plan things for the wedding every single day and I still have 9 months! Yikes! ;)

It does look like a long day, but it's not like people will be running around for those 14 hours. Maybe have people RSVP for the dessert party separately. That way it's optional for those who think it's too much. And that way you won't get stuck paying for people who bow out at the last minute. I say go for it though!

I also agree with the others--yeah it's a pretty long day, but it is only one day--and who can resist more dessert? Plus, it's not like they'd be running around the parks all day, which is a lot more tiring. I liked the idea of perhaps having your guests RSVP separately, just in case they decide to turn in early.

Thanks so much guys...that's kind of how I feel about it. Yeah, it's long...but it's a once in lifetime thing for most of my guests and I think it would be a really nice way to say thank you and end the night in a magical way. As for the RSVP, that's definitely something to think about. I wanted the dessert party to be a surprise but maybe I can let them know that there is an extra celebration planned and ask them to respond. Thanks for the great suggestions! :thumbsup2

Michelle...you have me dying over here...BAD EBAY...BAD!!!

id keep it all like it is.....long day....not a wdw....people do long days at wdw regardless of a wedding or not....they pack it in & run around from sun up to sun down....at least you are providing food & rest....id go for it!!!

If anyone says its to much....Id be happy to take their spot;)

good luck & i had to ban myself from ebay a few years ago....i got obsessed with watching the time wind down if i was bidding on something:lmao:

How is it much different then attending a wedding at home? They usually starts around 1 or 2, then you end up having to find a restaurant in between to have a few drinks at while you wait for pictures to be done before finally making your way to the reception location for dinner and dancing. If you stay the entire dance, this makes for at least a 12 hour day not including the time for you to get ready.

Your guests are coming all the way to Disney World specifically for your wedding so I am sure they will be fine with having the full day planned. It is a long day, but I am sure they will all appreciate the work you have put into planning it.

I agree if someone would like to give up their spot for your DP, I can fill in if you need to meet a minimum ;) hahaha

Diane,
I definitely think you should do the DP. Like everyone else said it will be a once in a lifetime thing. I'm planning on doing a DP for my DFTW as well and I'm really excited about it. I want it to be a surprise and thank you to everyone for coming. Its the perfect ending to a perfect day. :goodvibes

I'd do the DP too.

If I had to lose anything, I'd lose the Tea, so people would have another break during the day if they wanted to, and they'd still have their appetites for dinner!

Now, I'm really starting to feel guility. My guests will have a much longer day... We have a 9 am ceremony at the AAR followed by a brunch at Living Seas. Then our guests have a six hour break before our DP that evening. Of course, there is a break for most guests (except the wedding party because we will be taking pictures at other resorts.) Maybe just our wedding party will hate me after getting up at 5 am :scared1: then pictures before the wedding at 8 am with everything else going the rest of the day. Oh well, it will be lots of fun for everyone involved. :goodvibes

So I went ahead and booked it!!! We will be having our dessert party for 12/17 on the Morocco Terrace. I picked the For The Child In You package with a chocolate fondue add on. We had to have the fondue since DF proposed to me after a night at the Melting Pot! :goodvibes I will also be serving DF's surprise grooms cake there!! WOOHOOOOO! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I'm hoping I can substitute our honeymoon photography session for illuminations photography. I'm waiting to see what Juliana says...

I completely agree- your "long day" will be so worth it in the end!! What an amazing way to say thank you. I wish we had an opportunity to do a DP but alas we cannot. I think your schedule is perfect!!
