Is it Gatorade or Powerade at the resorts?

Just need to know if we have to stop at a grocery store before we check in to WL.

Thanks in advance.:D

I know it sounds a bit silly but DH won't drink Powerade and I definately want to stop if we won't be able to get Gatorade in the gift shop.:teeth:

I'm not sure about WL but at AKL and the parks they have Powerade.

How did I know that question was from an athlete for the race?? :p

You can bring powdered Gatorade mix...that's what I do when I travel for races. For the marathon, I put powdered mix in individual snack size ziploc bags...one bag for one "water bottle" and mixed my own as I was hydrating day before the race, and one to take on race morning. Of course, for the 1/2, you'll want to make more. However...I think Gatorade is a race sponsor, so that may be what they'll have on the course.

cheers!!!

Actually, I'm the athlete's wife:p I've got a long way to go before I would consider myself an athlete.

He's not a big fan of the powdered stuff for some reason. We will definately stock up on for our trip.

Well...you do have less choice of flavors with the powder. Yeah, I know you're the athlete's wife, but that is a big job, too!!

Just checked the race website...Gatorade and IMNA are definitely linked, so for race day itself, I am 99% sure there will be Gatorade on the course. They've done the drink for the other 1/2 IM's I've done, as well as IM. :) Lucky for me, I am not too picky about sports drink. Now as for energy bars and gels, that is a whole other story!!

How's his training going? I'm running a half marathon this coming weekend...decided not to let my fitness from the Disney marathon slide too much. Now I just have to get some time in on the bike and in the pool!!

How's his training going?

Don't ask:crazy: He did bring his bike up out of the basement this past weekend and he hooked it up to the trainer. He's going to start swimming again this week. He's spent more time on Trek's website this week looking at the new bike he wants to buy with our tax return.

He definately is not taking himself very seriously for this race. He even said so himself. He already expects to have trouble with the heat.

He is more concerned about IMFL in November.

Good luck in your 1/2 marathon

Thanks!

Yep...it's gonna be a long season...IMFL is so far into the year!
Makes sense to treat this 1/2 as more of a tuneup. A Trek, eh? And what do you get from the tax return? besides a happy hubby? ;) Trek has nice bikes.
I know you had asked before...I ride a Cervelo P2K and love it. Got it 2 years ago.

I'll be looking forward to meeting y'all at the race! (wonder why no one else on this board seems interested....hmmmm)

DH wants to buy a Trek Time Trial or Medone. I didn't pay that much for my first car. :p

This may sound like a silly question but are you a male or a female?, if you don't mind me asking.

I'll be looking forward to meeting y'all at the race!
Sounds good to me.

DH doesn't get into this chat board thingy like I do. He's very private. He keeps saying he hopes nobody walks up to us in Disney World and says "aren't you floridafam from the DIS?" It's hard to explain. He just doesn't get it.

Good luck.

Nice bikes, those choices. I have a little bike collection, based on "evolution" (personally) as I got into this sport.

I'm a girl...don't mind you asking...I have a "nongender" screen name. I was thinking that my posts may have sounded more like they came from a girl than a guy...but it's hard to tell.

so...If I find y'all at the expo and ask, "aren't you floridafam from the DIS" will your DH just die?! heehee!! I have met some nice folks from a tri bulletin board...but also met the guy who broke my heart into a million pieces there...so I don't go to tri boards right now. But no worries...I have so many tri friends here I'm learning not to miss the other ones! Plus, I'm trying to just focus on training...running has definitely improved over the last several months...but need to spend some serious time on the bike!

Yah, I couldn't tell if you were a guy or a girl.

Yes, DH will probably give me a dirty look. I'm sure he would jokingly give me a hard time. I have to say, we usually meet the nicest people at triathlons. There seems to be a really good atmosphere at every race we've ever been to.

DH has a Trek Hilo right now but it is the bike he purchased when he first started doing triathlons. He was looking at the P3 last year but he just loves Trek. I'm going to let him dream for a little while about buying a new bike before I tell him it's not happening-at least not in the next few months.

This sport of triathlon is not cheap.

I wish they would come out with the schedule for that weekend. I want to plan a few things around DH's schedule.

Take care.

OK...then we'll just meet "randomly" and not even mention the DIS boards. ;)

I hope the schedule as well as course maps come up soon...I really like to have it all planned out as well. Plus, I'm big on visualizing race courses as part of my mental preparation...wish I had taken the time to drive what parts of the course I could find when I was there for the marathon.

As for visualization for IM-FL...on the bike, it's flat, with pine trees on the sides. and then there's the part that's flat, with pine trees...and so on!

I wonder if the course for IMFL is similar to the course for Gulf Coast?

I would also like to see the course maps. At the 2002 Great Floridian someone pointed my DH the wrong way. I don't remember if he actually ended up going the wrong way or not. He did a tri up here in Michigan called the Steelhead and we both had a chance to meet Karen Smyers. What a nice person! Here is a picture of my DH with her.

Anyway, someone in that one went way off course and finished real late. I felt so bad for them. DH always has nightmares about something awful happening on race day. Like the power going out in the hotel and the alarm clock not going off. :p

Compared to Gulf Coast, the IMF bike course is similar, but a huge loop (they just do one long loop). Flat, but not very spectator friendly, 'cause it goes out in the boonies, and it's just not easy to get to more than one or two places out there (we didn't even try when we went to watch this past year, though we left chalk signs on the road the day before).

The run is exactly (or almost exactly) the same...except for IM, you do 2 loops instead of one. More spectator friendly, esp. if you have a bike...or you could rent a scooter there in PCB!

That is cool to meet Karen S...I hear she is really nice. And your "hibiscuits" are beautiful! I think bugs like mine...they just don't like to bloom very much. I'll have to watch them more closely this year.

Did I tell you I heard the WDW 1/2 IM is much flatter than Great Floridian? I met the race director...he said it doesn't go out to the hills by Clermont. yay!!

My worst race nightmare was that I kept forgetting to bring various items to transition, and had to keep running back and forth to the car...I think in the dream I ran like 6 miles before a 1/2 IM! ack!

My worst race nightmare was that I kept forgetting to bring various items to transition

Yup, my DH left our hotel room for the Steelhead tri and I got up and saw his tri shorts and top sitting there. I ran out to the lobby and saw his vehicle drive away. Luckily, there were other athletes in the lobby. I told them my DH's bib # and they said they would make sure he got the stuff. I agonized for the next 2 hours about handing over $100 worth of my DH's tri clothing to a total stranger. He did get the items. Turns out he didn't need them because he was wearing swim briefs. That's what I love about triathlons-everyone seems so friendly and honest.

My kids and I are going to try and rent one of those scooters next year in PCB. They have ones that seat 4 people. One of the places where you can plug them in is Pineapple Willy's-a place we LOVE!

DH is pretty happy they switched the transition area around at WDW. Less running before heading out on the bike. :D
