Is it easy to rent out points as owner ?

We are very tempted to buy into DVC and the only doubt would be that we may not be able to make trips as often as we would like due to the increasing high airfare.
So I know the other option would be to rent the points out in order to get back some money to cover the annual dues but just how easy is it ?
How is your experience in renting out the points ? Is easy to do ? Can we rely on that as the last option or better forget about it ! TIA for any advice.

I would love to answer your question but I never have enough points to worry about extras

I think it is - and if you are not confident you could use a service such as Davids that advertise on the boards.

personally think if you are going to struggle with the annual dues wouldn't buy into dvc
We worked it out to break even on our outlay and dues to a mod resort would take 8 stays off 2 weeks, as we have more than done that at least 13 think were in the profit stage of dvc were its staying in a delux for our dues
Next year is the first time were thinking of renting out some(only 80points as there banked into next year)to friends or family as we have a few holidays planed for next year and might miss Disney altogether (skiing and 2 cruises planned) but might just get it in,but were planning on Hawaii dvc the year after

If you need to rent out to cover costs then I agree with Paul that you should consider if DVC is right for you. However if it's more of a 'I can't use the points so I may as well make something on them' then renting isn't that hard, especially if you use a service to take care of things as they'll walk you through it.

However, personnally I'd use the banking & borrowing system.

You could go every 2 (previous year banked & current year) or every 3 years (previous year banked, current year, and next year borrowed) and have a huge amount of points to spend. If I ever stopped being in permanent debt to DVC I could theoretically do this and have a mega 990 points to vacation with!

Alas however I'm too addicted to the Mouse to let my points sit unused for a year or two.

I totally agree it would be such a waste to lose points just because the schedule means you can't make it to WDW.

Just remember that you don't have to just use them in WDW, you can theoretically even use them for a stay at the London Hilton! Though I freely admit that it's an uneconomical use of the points.

But if we're talking about the odd year or so where you can't make it then it sounds like the banking system will be perfect for you.

To answer your original question, it is fairly easy to rent out points, or even to transfer them.

Last year, we advertised 150 points for transfer, and the whole deal was arranged and sorted within one month. This year, we have rented 300 points through Dave (mentioned earlier) and again, it was very easy.

In both cases, we received $10 per point, which covered the dues and left a small profit

My wife's health now makes transatlantic travel very difficult for us, and renting makes a lot more sense than selling the points (too much tax, commission etc).

We too are hoping to buy into DVC this year and we have asked ourselves this question BUT we are planning to go every year and if not have people we can rent to if needs be.It si hard to rent to people when you know them.Seems difficult to charge the going rate but its business at the end of the day.
Where are you looking at buying and when? Are you going direct or through resale? Thete are lots of very helpful people on the UK DVC board here.

Hi, we are looking to buy a resale at SSR as that seems most value for the money! Just a small contract as we plan to do the bank and borrow thing and we don't plan to stay onsite every year. Hope we can get a suitable contract soon. Yes, very helpful people here on the disboard !
