I'm sorry that the IRS is dragging their heels on this. But here is a tactic...
The IRS is, among other things

, a money making entity. Now, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess that you already have an attourney in some capacity (a close friend adopted not too long ago, and she saw the lawyer more than her husband). Have your attorney file some paper work and press that interest be added to the principle of the original check. That might get them in gear.
It is the inverse of the policy the IRS has in place now. See, before, the IRS used to harp on you, and harp on you, and harp on you for the $14.71 that you owed them from last year. Now, they just let it stew and simmer and gather interest and penalties. Til the sum reaches a point that the person can still pay, but yet turns a profit for the gov't.
I hope the check gets to you soon. And I want to see a post trip report with those 2 cuties either with their favorite character or Minnie ears on.
We adopted thru foster care, so we never needed an attorney. We had already did this last year on the twins & got back over $24,000 WITH interest because of how long it took them. We mis-understood that all foster kid adoptions are considered "special needs" adoptions, so we didn't apply for it for Addy......so we went back and did it this year. The end of this month will be the "12 week" mark from when they received it. So really I shouldn't be biting at the bit for this....but the letter threw us off & so we thought.....cool, they did it quicker this time around. But I guess they sent us a letter at the halfway mark, which is just stupid & confusing. Hopefully they'll get it done quick so we can move on!!
So this is 2009, the twins first trip to
Disneyland....we had just returned from a magical 25th anniversary trip, that didn't include the twins & had to turn around and go back so my hubby could interview with Disneyland......unfortunately, things didn't work out (a computerized test got the best of him......the hiring people would have hired him on the spot if it hadn't been for the computer thing....which they can't over-ride).......anywhos, back to the story. We got about 2 days at the parks with the girls......they don't like to have stuff on their heads.....so just getting these pics were a miracle.
This is Shyann:
This is Michayla:
The girls would have been 23 months.
In the summer of 2010, we took ALL 7 of our kids to Disneyland......again, the girls don't like hats but I was able to get the clip on Minnie Ears & with their thick curly hair....they actually stayed in for most of the day.
Shyann on the left & Michayla on the right. They were 3yrs 3mths then.
Since these trips (which were very hard on them & us), the girls have blossomed & like being out of the home.....so we're hoping for much better luck on this upcoming trip. Shyann actually can name Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Doggy (Pluto) and Donald Duck.......so we'll keep working on all the characters by watching movies & looking at books so she'll be ready.
They both were a tad uncomfortable with the characters but Shy warmed up to them quicker than Michayla did. In the beginning neither girl wanted anything to do with them, but after a couple days, Shy got into it but Michayla was still not interested.
This was when they met Mickey for the first time.....both girls love Mickey.....but not the big one!!!
This was Shy, getting some love from Goofy.....a very sweet moment!!
At the very last meal before leaving Anaheim, Michayla fell in love with Mickey.....she ran up to him and sat at his feet & Mickey sat right down with her.....I was in tears!!
By the end of the meal, Michayla was overwhelmed....but Minnie was so sweet to just rub her back.
So we're excited to see how they do......with their autism & delays....you just never know how they'll react & do in situations. We're hoping for the best but realistic that a back up plan will be needed. (usually letting them hide away in their stroller does the trick)
