Is it December Yet?? Cancelled with a Heavy Heart!

I think I'm back on here for planning!! :woohoo: The last few weeks have been rough with my dad passing.....but we had a beautiful memorial service on Saturday that my brother performed (he's a minister). I also was able to sing a song for my dad......so it was a nice service with lots of family around.

I've been thinking about where we were planning on staying.....I was excited to stay at the Pop Century resort, but the double beds were really bugging me. I don't think I've slept in a dbl for over 20yrs!! I also was envisioning my 2 grown boys fighting for space on the bed & the 10 & 6 yr old never sleeping because "he's touching me"........ So I started looking to see what resorts offered queen size beds.....I wasn't sure we would be able to afford somewhere else.....but it's free to look!!

So after some research, I found the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort. I loved the look~~~my favorite part of Disneyland is New Orlean's Square.....so what a perfect fit!! WDW doesn't have this, but they do in a resort!!! :cool1: I'm super excited to announce, that since it was less than $550/per room to upgrade.......WE DID!!!!!! We are now staying at the French Quarter!!! :yay:

Here are a few pics from google images:

I feel staying here will be another way to honor my dad's memory....we shared a love for Dixieland/Jazz music & this resort just makes me smile from the inside out!!

POR FQ is great! Jay and I stayed there pre-Andrew! I really love POP but the pools don't have anything special like the slide at FQ. I agree that it is better for the little ones. And how great to honor your Dad's love of Jazz! I wish WDW had something like NO Square in the Parks but this is the next best thing!

I think this resort is going to be a great fit......I love the looks of the grounds, the pool looks like fun for everyone.....I love how the buildings just look like plantation homes (only 3 stories high)....doesn't look like a hotel at all. Can't wait to see it during the holidays.....the masks are always so festive!! I'm assuming there will be background music....I'm sure just hearing that toe-tapping dixe/jazz will keep me smiling the whole trip!!

You are going love it there. Such a beautiful resort

You can easily check out the other side as well, Riverside.

I love the food court at riverside.

Plus, they have a piano man there in evening, Bob Jackson

He is such a character and he gets everyone in the room involved..in singing, dancing et al

Awesome!!!

I was looking at the Boatwright's (?) menu from the Riverside.......GUMBO!!!! :cool1: That restaurant is going on the list of must do's!!!! It reminds me of the Cafe Orleans........which is a family favorite at Disneyland!!

My Friend was just there and they raved about Boatwrights

She said they had best corn bread

They ate there 3 times :thumbsup2

Just started following now (haven't read all the posts yet). We went to WDW in Dec 2010 and are going back in Dec 2012 with an expanded group. You will LOVE being immersed in the lights, the scenery and all things Disney. If you can find the HGTV Behind the Magic special of the behind the scenes of WDW at Christmas, it will take your breath away. :santa:

We stayed at POR and ate at Boatwright's as well. The corn bread IS amazing. But don't forget to try the crawfish bites.

:wave2: WELCOME!!!!

I got a small taste of the holidays this past December at Disneyland.....it was amazing!!! I can't wait to experience at WDW.......I'll be in Christmas overload!!! :dance3: I'll see if I can find that special.....chances are, I've probably seen it already....I try to catch all the Disney specials!!! Just never thought I'd actually get to go to WDW!! :yay:

We're looking forward to trying Boatwright's for the gumbo too!!!!! :cool1:

Thought I should check-in over here......I'm 5 days away from my Disneyland Dis-Diva's Girl's Only Trip!!!! I'm excited to be going (I am taking my 25 yr old son with me....lol). I've been keeping busy with the planning & now the packing.

I got a call from the children's hospital that my twins go to for a lot of their medical/genetic issues. One of the twins (Michayla) needs to get a dime sized hole in her heart repaired. Due to where it's located, they will have to do this as open heart surgery. It's non-emergent, as it doesn't seem to be affecting her. We planned to have it done this summer (July). The phone call I got was saying, after the cardiology team met....they decided they would like to do the surgery sooner......like MARCH 6th!! I was not prepared for that. I'm not sure why it went from being a non-emergent thing to lets have her in here in less than 3 wks??!!

So I'll be getting back from my trip on Monday the 27th & the following Monday, we'll be in Portland for her pre-op. I'm a little freaked out about all this. She's our non-vocal, 9-12mo old cognative & autistic baby girl (ok, she's almost 5....but will always be my baby). We will not be able to explain anything to her & she won't be able to tell us she's scared or she's hurting. So sad!! :sad1:

Its been a rough couple months.....so hopefully after her surgery....our year will be nothing but easy going & fun!! I'm SOOOOOOOO ready for that!!!

Oh Laurie, how scary! Poor baby girl! I know that she will be fine, but it is definitely tough not being able to explain things to her!

Enjoy the Diva trip! I will pop over there to see all of your wonderful pictures!

 Thanx Vicki!! I cringe at an adult going thru this surgery......it's not supposed to happen to my baby!! :sad1: She's strong & a trooper.....just wish she didn't have to go through this!!

Congrats on upgrading to POFQ!! Sounds like a great choice!! And Boatwrights...that sounds pretty yummy. We love that kind of food.

Hope everything goes well with your daughters surgery in March.

 Thanx so much!! I have complete faith in our medical team....just scary!

We're very excited with our move to POFQ......I'm in love with the pictures I've seen. The music will keep my toes tapping & my heart smiling!!! :yay:

Thought I'd stop in & update everyone......I'm leaving for Disneyland Wednesday evening!!! :cool1: Tyler & I will be staying at my oldest son's home Weds. night & then he'll drive us to the airport at 4:30am. He lives about 30 mins away from the airport.....makes more sense to stay with him that night instead of leaving my house at 2:30am!! He'll then drive our van back to our home & help my hubby with the kiddos while we're gone.

I'll be gone until late Monday night. Then we'll be heading back up to Portland (my hubby and Michayla) on Sunday so Michayla can be at the children's hospital at 8am for her full day of pre-op appts. Her surgery will be on Tuesday, March 6th. We were told she'd be in the hospital for 3-4 days following the surgery. We're hoping to head home by Friday. So as you can see, I have a couple of busy weeks coming up......some fun, excitement & relaxation before a week of stress, panic, fear & sadness......but I know she'll do fine & it will be good to have this taken care of before it becomes an issue that affects her health.

So if I'm not checking in as often....you'll know why!!

 Thanx Paula.....wish you were joining us on the trip.....but glad you're getting to spend time with your hubby!!!

I just saw you had a PTR going too.....so I subscribed to it last night....but will actually go read it today!!!! :woohoo:

Wow, that's a little bit of short notice for such a surgery. I hope everything goes well for her! I will be thinking of you guys.

Have much fun on your diva trip.

And good luck to your daughter and the medical team treating her, will say a prayer for all of you.

I know......the medical team mets quarterly to review cases & we had requested to have this done in July. Since it was up to us & there wasn't any urgency in this....I figured all was good. But after the team met, the nurse called & said, they'd like her in the first week of March......I was stunned & still a bit in shock. Obviously they saw something that may have been missed when the echo was done in Nov. I guess it's good they're on top of things.....but doesn't give us much time to prepare....mentally for this.

Have much fun on your diva trip.

Thanx!! I'm looking forward to the trip to recoop from losing my dad & resting up & just letting my hair done & having fun before tackling the next speed bump!!
