is it better to get airfar sooner or later?

we will be flying out of Newark NJ in January

so far the rates have been at about $218-$225 per person non stop flight coming to around $650 for MH myself and DS (5yo)

is it better to just book the air fare now (as in next monday) or should i wait till around december?

It depends on when you are flying and where you are going. Generally, if your travel dates coincide with a holiday of ANY kind (anything that might cause schools to be closed or work to close for the day), then you should buy ASAP. This is also true if your destination is holding some kind of special event that is drawing more than about 10K people (a big trade show, for example, or a national political convention, or a major public festival such as Jazz Fest in New Orleans).

Other than in those two situations, generally later is cheaper. Prime sale windows are usually about 6-9 weeks out from your travel dates.

I heard once that the latest you should book your flight is 30 days ahead of time because after that the fares will go up considerably. I haven't purchased ours yet either, but the price has come down quite a bit to fly from Detroit Metro to MCO.
