i would like to go and try to feed/pet the dolphins in seaworld - is best to go straight to dolphin cove first thing - or do another attraction first?

thanks,

xjx

Your best bet is to visit the dolphins just before feeding time. They're pretty clever creatures and know when the feeding times are - they will come closer to the edge so you have a better chance of petting them. If you don't want to pay out for the food for them, try to stand near someone who is feeding for a better chance of petting one as they will migrate to those people with food :)

If you go to see the dolphins first, you'll see the times posted at the little kiosk there for when you can buy food and feed them. You'll either be able to hang out (line up!) to get your food, or you'll know when to come back. They sell only so much food at each time slot, so you'll need to be sure you're there and in line if you really want to feed them. As the other poster said, if for some reason you miss out on being able to buy the food yourself, it is still wonderful to be tank-side and watch, and you can still have opportunities to interact with them.

If you want to feed get in line AT LEAST 30 mins beforehand. I lined up 30 mins beforehand and they sold the last tray to the guy in front of me! Talk about the window shutting in your face! The rest of the day I tried to no avail. SOOOO upset. The next visit I got in line as soon as I went through the front gate and got to feed:) Best bet there

We just got back and if you really want to feed the dolphins, I would do it first thing!!

These boards are great!!!

We went to SW 3 times during our recent trip, we just got back last night. Two times we went directly to Dolphin Cove at opening. The boys, DS7 & DS9, and I would go right to the dolphin area and my husband would go to the fish hut and wait in line to purchase the food. The fish hut (where they sell the fish to feed - $5 for a tray) is not well marked and most people (non-DIS'ers) it seemed - didn't seem to know you could buy fish. Right before they open the Fish Hut the SW employees would get on the microphone and tell the people the best way to interact - how to hold your hands, remove your hats, etc.. and purchase food. If you wait until they make the announcement, the line will be huge.

When we went, they were opening the fish hut at 9:30am, but I've read sometimes its at 9:15am. Anyways, both times we were able to feed the dolphins.

Also, they-the dolphons- must know when it's time to eat because our second time waiting, we got to pet a bunch of dolphins way before we were feeding them. They were looking for food.

The experience only makes us want to do Discovery Cove more! Maybe next time!
