Is it best to avoid RD at EMH Parks?

Hey,

We are only in the parks two days but with hoppers, with don't have access to EMH. It's my husband's first trip so I really wanted his first park to be Disneyland.

We are visiting the 2nd weekend of May (I hope the earlier opening date of Star Wars Land May 31st, doesn't increase the crowd levels too much our weekend of people trying to avoid the crowds, I thought it wasn't gonna open until June sometime)

So are EMH is Saturdays at DL and Sundays at DCA, should we rope drop DCA instead on Saturday and park hop into DL later in the day (what time would you recommend?) and then do the opposite Sunday, and rope drop Disneyland ?

EDIT

Thank you guys, any tips on the best rides to RD, and best to get fastpasses for?

A few more questions;

We plan on buying maxpass, Do you have to buy MaxPass daily? (we are using 2x single day hoppers)

What's the best time of day to meet characters, we want to meet all the classics in their new celebration outfits?

Many thanks

If you RD, then yes. If you arrive 60 minutes or more after RD, it will not matter.

If one must RD DL on an EMH morning, it is best to start in the parts of the park not open for EMH - Frontierland, NOS, CC. For DCA pretty much everything is open for EMH so there is no way to avoid it.

Agree with HydroGuy that you can do Disneyland at rope drop if you intend to go to the Adventureland side first. I understand why you want to go to DL first since it is iconic. However if you intend to ride as many rides as possible it may be better to flip your morning strategy and go to the non EMH park first. That is what we typically do.

In DL, I'd rope drop Indy and use MP to get a quick turnaround FP for Space. In DCA, we rope drop GotG and get the quick turnaround FP for RSR.

Yes, you must buy MP each day you want it, unless it's included on your tickets already (this is only possible if you bought direct from Disney). It's super-easy to do, though.

For the Mickey & Friends characters, I'd do Toontown when it open (an hour after regular park opening), but the celebration outfits are likely to only be out in Town Square - Toontown usually has them in the traditional outfits.

Whatever you do don't waste your time rope dropping Peter Pan. So many people rush there that it isn't a short wait and not worth wasting time on. I agree that Indy is a good choice. Also Guardians.

See "Maxpass/Fastpass: an overview and some strategy" - www.disboards.com/threads/maxpass-fastpass-an-overview-and-some-strategy.3726246/

and

"Comparing DLR's MaxPass to WDW's FastPass+" - https://www.disboards.com/threads/comparing-dlrs-maxpass-to-wdws-fastpass.3726294/

It is really an individual thing. It is much easier to get FP using MP than FP+ at WDW.

Among the FPs, the most in demand is RSR at DCA. After that, it is GOTG at DCA and Space Mtn/Indy/Splash at DL (Splash only on warm days). BTMRR at DL does not have the same FP popularity as at MK. Neither does TSMM at DCA.
