I think this is an interesting question to examine – As we can see, there’s lot of opinions around that nothing should stop anyone wearing a badge at any time of the year, even if it’s not actually on your birthday/anniversary… but if you’re there “celebrating” then go your hardest – The problem with this is, everyone is wearing a badge when you go – You can’t walk past a 10 people without seeing at least one or two badges for someone “celebrating” something… and now that it’s become the norm, I feel like it’s lost its charm.
My Fiance and I were there last year celebrating our engagement, and we had a few different badges given to us by CM’s to wear, which we did – We’re a same-sex couple, and it was nice to have our relationship recognised by others (as back home here in South Australia, it’s not something that people would normally recognise/celebrate publically) We got annoyed by a group of guys who were “joking” about wearing “Just Married” badges that they got from Customer Relations – All clearly straight… and none of them at all married to one another – However they wore the badges and were joking about all the congratulations and pixie dust they had been receiving… hearing their conversation over lunch really took the edge off our experience, as it seemed “just about anyone” could get a badge and wear it for whatever reason they wanted, when for us, it really was to mark a special experience we were legitimately celebrating on that trip…
When we arrive again next week for our Honeymoon, no doubt we’ll be wearing our “Just Married” badges in replacement of our “We’re Celebrating” and “Happily Ever After” badges from last year – Personally, I don’t think it’s right to feel like you have to find an excuse to wear a badge to acknowledge you’re celebrating for “your birthday that was 7 months ago, but we couldn’t make it then so we’re celebrating now…” or “We’re celebrating our Anniversary from 5 months ago but had to reschedule our trip so now we’re celebrating our anniversary” because lets face it… it’s not actually your birthday or anniversary while you’re there – that was months ago – now you’re just on a holiday.
But anyway… just my two cents…
