Purchase an adult ticket for my 8 year old in order to allow him to to buy adult meals off of the Free Dining menu?

Last year he hated the kid menu options after 2-3 days and ended up eating most of my meals.

Thanks

Yes, you will rot in Disney jail. ;)

It's perfectly okay to buy him an adult ticket for the dining plan. If ever in doubt, ask if you would be spending more money then normal. If so, Disney would never frown upon that haha.

Honestly I don't think so but I find it funny that most people are trying to bypass 'Disney Law' and buy their 9, 10, 11 yo a childs ticket to 'buck the system' & you are doing the opposite!! :thumbsup2

ETA: Can we book weekends in Disney Jail? That might be fun!!

That's very true, most people try to do the opposite, so I don't see why Disney woud have a problem with you spending more money...:goodvibes

So should we state that he is 10 (and basically lie to the Mouse) or simply request to buy an 8 year old an adult ticket?

There was a recent thread that talked about this. I would be honest with Disney when you are purchasing your tickets and I expect they will be fine with it.

No, not really. IMO he is still "gaming the system". The OP wants to pay about $20 more for an adult ticket for his child so that child can eat off the adult menu during the Free Dining promotion. So, for $20 more over the whole trip he trades a $9 kids TS and a $6 kids CS meal for a $35 adult TS and a $10 CS meal every single day. Since the DDP is free, it's not like he's paying the extra $35+ per day to upgrade his child to the adult DDP plan.

That being said, Disney will allow him to do it so it is not "against Disney law".

Oh come on!! A kid should not be forced to eat chicken nuggets everyday if they don't care for it! PP are you serious? Out comes the popcorn::

This is only true if the OP plans on staying at a Mod or Deluxe resort. QS meal credits are not tracked as child/adult. A credit is a credit.

When I was booking my bounceback offer for free dining last year the cm I spoke with actully suggested I upgrade my daughters age so that she can enjoy a wider menu selection. So I dont think this is "bucking" the system, and I don't think Disney would have a problem with it.

So you want to pay adult price to get adult perks for a not-quite adult? I don't see that being a problem. As long as you pay full freight across the board it should be okay. If there's an upcharge for "adults" on the room you'd need to pay that, but as long as you book everything with the assumption that your kid is financially an adult you should be okay.

My DD never ate a single chicken nugget at WDW. Not one.

They don't track them as adult credits and child credits, but I think the card still indicates the number of children and adults in the room. You cannot "purchase" more adult CS meals on the card than the maximum number of adults indicated ... that IS a "Disney law".

May be a rule (like FP return times), but we do it all the time (for legit reasons) and have NEVER been given a problem at checkout.

My point was only that they would not be gaming the system. In fact, they would be paying extra money for adult tickets without getting anything extra in return.

I think Disney will take out out back and make you cook the Turkey Legs for about week if you try this!

Seriously, I don't think Disney would mind at all if you tried to hand them extra money. Just know he may not be able to order off the kids menu if the mood strikes.

I think (not 100% sure though) that the adult charge on the rooms only apply to "real" adults not Disney adults, meaning 18 and up only.

Yes, I think this is correct. :thumbsup2 They are considered Juniors, so no extra charge on the room, however their park tickets will be adult priced, not child, so take that into consideration. Have a great time! :thumbsup2

Okay, with the CS thing.....
If you have 2 adults and 2 kids on the DDP then at any one time you can only purchase a max of 2 adult meals at any one time but you can, of course, obtain 2 adult meals and 2 kids meals at once. However, if you only get 2 adult CS meals for say BF (and share amongst you) and then lunchtime rolls around then you can get 2 adult CS meals then also (and share) and not go over your allotment of CS meals for adults. We have done this openly on all of our trips and have had nothing said to us so I guess it is okay. Disney only tracks TS regarding kids vs adults used. With CS they only count the total number used regardless whether kids or adults.

OP.....
I had my DD8 booked as a child under the free DDP, and called to have her upgraded to an adult. All I had to do was pay the extra for an adult park ticket which in my case was a mere $25 more for a 10 day adult ticket over a child ticket. This was using complete honesty with Disney and they had no problem doing this for me. I have an older DD10 and I didn't want my DD8 feeling left out especially since her choices in food are quite adventurous. Good luck!

It's a shame they don't have a child swap program for this -- would make everyone happy. Oh wait then we wouldn't have anything to complain about on here :rotfl:

ACCEPTABLE. Disney has ZERO problems with people upgrading their child to an adult as long as you pay for the adult park ticket. Call and be honest about your plan. Even with it being free dining, they will accomodate you with NO problems. Have a magical and food-filled vacation!:thumbsup2

I'm persnickety about these things, but I would be up front about it. That way, if there is a policy against it, the Cast Member can be the one to tell you.
