Is it a good idea to visit over Spring Break?

We are (well actually Iam, DH doesn't know yet) considering going to Orlando for Spring Break. We would arrive Sat. April 19 and leave April 27. I was thinking about US/IOA for 2 or 3 days and then Disney for the rest of the week. We have been to Disney many times and the crowds won't bother us too much, we will just see what we see. But should I wait for a less crowded trip to test out US or IOA?:

It's up to you, the last few Spring Breaks were pretty crowded, I have an annual pass so I can come back when I want and don't feel bad when I don't go on a ride, but if I was on vacation and had to wait on Spider-Man for 120 Minutes or Bilge-Rat Barges for 90 minutes I would not be to happy.

It will be crowded and those wait times are times I seen last year at Spring Break so it’s up to you.

I would hold off and go in Late August - September or November, I always recommend November as the best time to go, weather is nice, no crowds, rarely rains, that is a good time to go.

But it's up to you if you can handle crowds go for it.

Would you be staying onsite at Universal? If so, you would have crowds to fight, but would not have long waits for most rides since you'd have the front-of-the-line access.

I also decided to go to Universal during spring break before breaking the news to my husband. Once the fertile seed took root in his brain he was ok with it...

We are going the same week, but staying at the RPR I'm not too worried about lines, will be really crowded though.

Thanks for the thoughts. Nov. is also my favorite time at the parks. It is wonderful then. We will not be on-site. The only way I can even bring up the subject of another trip is to promise to use points. So it will be the Hilton at DD for us if we go. I am leaning toward holding off until a more quiet time. We know our way around Disney, and will know what to skip and what to wait for, also in the crowds it may be best to limit what we try to accomplish. Thanks for letting me think that through. How long did you wait to break it to him, Belle? Oh, well he loves me and kows my addiction all too well! He has suggested a 12 step program though!

Once we decided that we wanted to go somewhere for Spring Break (we never have before) I thought up a bunch of ideas and let him think about them. I then found something wrong with every other plan so we were left with only Florida. We will go to Universal and to Sarasota to visit my DHs aunt, so we are mixing in some family, which helped to convince him (and I was all for seeing her). A bit sneaky of me, maybe, but I wasn't really trying to be that way. You understand! lol

Of course I want to get annual passes so we can go again next year and today is the last day of the passhoders buy 1, get 1 1/2 price, so I need to work fast convincing him.

Too funny Belle! I hope you get the AP. But I should tell you that is what caused my DH to suggest the 12 step program!

Yes, we had WDW APs that expired a year ago. In that time we went twice as a family, my DH, youngest son, and I went once (DH was on business), and right before the pass expired I met my sister down there without children. Of course the last trip was the best with two adults. That AP that we bought "to save money" sure did cost us a lot!

I think that's what would scare my DH about getting Universal APs, but I would try to restrain myself and only go a couple of times. Really I could try.

Maybe I could join a 12 step program, also.

Spring Break might not be as crowded this year due to a variety of factors including shorter school holidays up north (due to snow days), war in Iraq, and highere gas prices.

Kelly, bite your tongue about the shortened spring vacations up north. I refuse to even think about that possibility. We're on our 10th snow day this winter and only 4 were built in to the calendar (and a waiver will be granted for 2 more days due to the blizzard) . We would already be two days into spring break, but the district is trying to come up with other possibilities (I guess too many angry parents and teachers). Maybe a longer school day. I hope that we won't have to change our plans for our Universal trip.

I hope that they don't take away your vacation days. It has been a long winter, you need to get to the sunshine state. Hilton could not get us a room in DD. Even the Diamond Desk could not come through for us, so it looks like we will head to Hilton Head and hang at the beach. I am on the wait list and I know there are rooms (Dreams has some), but I am not going to get my hopes up. The beach will be nice too. At this point anyplace I can look forward to NOT having snow will improve my cabin fever!

Disneymom, That's what my husband wanted to do--hang around a beach for a week. We've done that before in the summer and enjoyed it, but we had less children then and they were a lot younger. I was concerned that the older kids would be bored without a lot of activity. I have a girl who is 15yo and boys who are 12, 9, and 3yo so the big age span makes if difficult to plan a vacation that we all can get excited about.

BTW, I did buy APs so we will plan to go back for a few days next spring vacation and go to a beach, etc for the other few days. It's tough to please a crowd...

We do water vacations pretty often. My kids are also far apart, DS10 and DD3, so I know what you mean about keeping everyone happy. When we go to the beach we just make sure there are water activites. DS and DH will golf and rent a sea doo. DD will be happy with a shovel and pail. I would just like to take off 10 pounds before finding that swim suit again! Enjoy the AP"S. I think we will get them again next Nov.
