I left a scathing review of this place on another post but I'm happy to share our horrible experience again. We were there last September (2007) for my DH's birthday dinner (on the free dining). Our waiter was so rude to me - we should have just left but I felt the same as you - were weren't "technically" paying for it and it was my DH's birthday so I was trying not to make a big deal of it. Long story short, I ordered the Mahi Mahi and asked that the sauce not be spicy. The waiter told me I came to the wrong place and I couldn't get the sauce w/o the spice. So I said just ask the chef to do whatever he can w/o the spice (I have an ulcer and can't eat spicy foods). Well, the guy brought out a piece of dry, cooked fish with nothing on it. I was totally deflated by the sight of it. I asked him if I could get anything to moisten it up and he offered ketchup! Ketchup - can you believe it?! So at that point I asked for the manager and explained my dilemma. He went to the kitchen and came back with a bowl of the sauce that comes with the fish, EXCEPT IT WASN'T SPICY. Then he had the nerve to tell me that I should have asked for it in the first place! Obviously it wasn't his fault - it was his employee's fault but at that point I lost the will to argue. Suffice it to say that we will NEVER go back and I am usually one to give things a second chance especially since people are individuals. That surly waiter just didn't like the fact that I didn't want spicy food - like it was a personal affront to him
So he went out of his way to be an unhelpful jerk and for me, the memory of that may ruin any attempt to try it again. But hey, that's just me. Funny too - my husband's steak was delicious and not spicy at all so I wish I had ordered that.
Anyway, you're not the only one who has experienced bad service there. At the time I chalked it up to free DDP (at that time the tip was included). Maybe he felt good to be able to be a jerk to someone because he knew he would be getting the tip anyway. But I guess removing the automatic tip hasn't necessarily made things better so who knows?
