is half day enough for mgm ? (with kids)

hi,
i'm going for wdw in 2 weeks (yay) and i wonder if half day is enough for mgm? (this is our first time)
we plan to go to mgm in the evening (after nap probably around 4) but i can only watch playhouse disney and fantasmic (dinner ressie)
how about other families with young kids? what else do you watch/ride in mgm?

The Muppets are great, Little Mermaid, Walk thru the Walt Disney memorabilia and stay for the 20minute movie, the Great Movie Ride, Beauty and the Beast,Indiana Jones, and the new Light,Cars Action or something(stunt show)is supposed to be incredible. Lots to do, Fun, Fun, Fun. You will need all day!

MGM is really an all day park. Is this your 1st trip to DIsney? If it is you will want to stay all day.
We are going to Disney in March 2007 (4th trip) and we will only do about half day. My DH wants to see the new stunt show and I want to get on the T of T Then we will just walk around for a bit and head into AK.

I say try for a whole day if you can fit it on your schedule.

I agree you'll need at least a full day at Disney-MGM Studios.

We are going for the 3rd time in 18 months and we plan on spending at least 1 1/2 days at MGM. THere are several shows you will want to see - so you have to plan the rides around the 30 mins shows -- it is a time consuming park. Make sure you grab a schedule at your resort to plan your day!!

we have 2 kids 7 and 2 and we only do a half a day there all the kids stuff and star wars

like beauty and the beast (i read in passporter it's for age 5&up) can my 4 yo go in? how about little mermaid (age 3 & up) can my dd1 watch the show?
do they really strict about this? do i have to stay outside with dd when dh watch the shows with ds4?
sorry i have too many Q's

How long to stay in any of the parks depends on the age and personality of your kids. The Muppets,The Little Mermaid and The Great Movie Ride are terrific but they can be scary. In The Great Movie Ride (my favorite) theres the alien from the movie Alien with slime, the witch from Wizard of Oz. The Little Mermaid (my daughter's favorite) is dark and Ursula/eels can scare little kids. The Muppets is great but some of the characters run around the theatre - they don't approach anyone but that can scare some kids. MGM is a great park - we love it - but we only stay 1/2 a day.

I took my 1 and (almost 4) year old dd's to the Little Mermaid and they both liked it. There aren't any age restrictions, those are Passporters suggestions based upon their own rating system. Also, we went to the Honey I Shrunk the Kid's playground and they both loved it. We ate at Prime Time and my dd(almost4) really got into the fact that the parents were "kids" too. We took them both on the Great Movie ride and they were fine. The alien part isn't very long. We didn't do Beauty and the Beast because of timing...we'll do it next time.

Timing is the reason you should allow more than just a 1/2 day. You'll need to get there early for Fantasmic (or you'll need the dinner package) and you'll need to allow time to be theere when the shows are actually playing as they play on a schedule, not continuously. I would give it a whole day or the "morning" part of the day so that you ahve a longer time. By the time you get there after a nap it will be almost 5pm...you'll have missed a lot of the shows...and if you eat, you won't have time for much else besides Fantasmic (which is fantastic).

We could possible stop there for a couple hours earlier in the week (probably late afternoon or evening), what attractions/shows could we see so that we will have more time for other things on that last morning?

if there is no age restriction then i will definetely need a day in mgm, (i just bought the passporter yesterday, so i thought there's age restriction need to read more )

this is what i plan to do with dd :
playhouse disney, the magic of disney animation, the muppets and of course beauty and the beast (i heard that it's a blast)

My 16 month old like the Little Mermaid and so did our 4 year old (both boys).
They both liked the Indiana Jones Stunt Show, Playhouse Disney, Honey I Shrunk the kids playground.......we did not make it to Fantasmic and I am so disappointed we didn't. But you really cannot do everything.
Our 16 month old went back to the room with Daddy and My Mom and I and my 4 year old went on Star Wars and he LOVED it.

We took our 2.5 & 5 year old DDs to Beauty and the Beast and to Little Mermaid. They absolutely loved them. We had special seating for Beauty and the Beast since it was my DW's birthday. It was both DDs favorite show.
