Is going for New Year's Eve a terrible idea?

We LOVE doing the 12/30 fireworks at MK at 12/31 at Epcot.

I have one vote for stroller here - only because you have small kids - would either of them sleep in a stroller if they crashed when it got late? my kids are younger but even considering the crowds I would probably still bring my double just so they could sleep if we were staying at the park for the long haul.

They'll sleep better on our backs. We only have a small umbrella stroller that I don't imagine is all that comfortable to sleep in.

We went for the first time this year at Epcot. It was great! We didn't take our son, but I would definitely bring him next time. Just go in with the proper expectations and go with the flow.

Everything at the Epcot NYE celebration is geared toward adults. The dance parties are awesome. It is a must do, but not with small children.

It can take 30 minutes to navigate to a bathroom because of the crowds.

My family is going to WDW in January. We have 4 day tickets with the Canadian resident deal. The plan right now is to fly to Orlando on the 30th and head to Homossassa to visit family then go to Disney World where we are staying at Kidani on rented points.

Recently we started thinking about maybe doing a day at the start of the trip (which would probably be NYE) then having a resort only day for 1 of our days during the AK stay. If we went NYE we would go for the entertainment and atmosphere not attractions but is it a terrible plan? I'd love to see the fireworks at Epcot or MK.
Horrible idea.

I only say that because if more people think its a bad idea, that many less people will be there with me. Lol

We were going to fly Dec 31 but AC cancelled the flight it isnow Dec 30 out of Ottawa :) bonus day!!!
Originally we were going to arrive do dinner maybe Disney Springs and turn in early for an early Jan 1 in the parks. Now with the extra day I think we are going to brave Magic Kingdom for. Bit :)

We arrived early for marathon weekend last year - on December 31. Just our youngest son and me - the rest of our family arrived later in the week.

It was wonderful. Flight landed, magical express, lunch at resort and then bus to DHS in the late afternoon. We had FP+, so that helped. He loved the dance party on the stage at DHS - yes, it was crowded, but really fun and he's a dancer so it was perfect for him. We had Jingle Bell Jingle Bam dessert party reservations, so that took us out of the crowd for a while - same could be accomplished by an ADR. After the JBJB fireworks at 9pm, he was ready to call it a night. Bus back to resort and we were asleep around 10:30pm, which was fine with me! I might have felt differently about NYE if we were in a park all day, if that park was Epcot or MK or if we stayed past the midnight fireworks and needed to use Disney transportation at that time. Our night was very low key and very fun - would absolutely do it again!
