Is Genie+ needed for DAS person in our party?

Ok. I’ve tried to read previous threads, but I think I am having a hard time understanding. I also don’t quite grasp the DAS fully since we’ve never used it. Sorry in advance!
Our travel party is my family of 6 plus 2 grandparents. My family of 6 already has Genie+ on our tickets. We plan to get DAS for one grandparent. We will not always be together in the parks nor will the grandparents want to ride every attraction we will. Grandparents won’t go on rides or be off on their own to do things without us, but just will need to rest more at the park or skip a park day and stay at the hotel.

Based on that info, do the two grandparents (one will have DAS) need Gene+? I don’t quite understand if we are doing Genie+ for a ride, can they enter at that time? Or, do we just go with them using DAS?

DAS and Genie+ are totally separate and work differently.

With Genie+, you get the next available time, whereas DAS is based on current wait time.

If they don’t have Genie+ on their tickets, they can’t enter based on your Genie+. If you want to ride together with them not having Genie+, you’ll either need to have some of your party added to their DAS, or get a DAS return time when you get your Genie+ return time, and then all go in together. But that would tie up the DAS until the return time is used.

You could just buy them the Genie+ the day of, on days they will be at park longer.

You will likely have a hard time coordinating them.
Example:
9 am at AK, 6 of you book G+ for Safari and get a return time of 12:00 noon. (you get no choices). Grandparent opens DAS and with a 60 minute wait time their return time is 10 am. Now they can choose to wait and go with you since there is no expiration time for DAS but then they can't get another one until they use that one. Really depends on how often they want to use it. IF they had G+ they book with you for Safari then they could use their DAS to get a time for Lion King Show while you all go ride Everest.

Depends on how many attractions you think they will want to do, and do with you. DAS may be sufficient for them.

That’s helpful to remember. I was thinking about this because of the changes coming with purchasing G+ and I’m afraid they will raise the prices by our trip.

I don’t know if they would do stuff without us (since we would want to do those things, too). But, clearly, we are not experts at this or frequent goers, and I still have lots of planning in regards to attractions!

OP, make sure you understand the rules for DAS. You indicated you will get this for one grandparent but if it's because of a mobility or fatigue issue, they will likely be denied and told to use a wheelchair or ECV. They may have another reason for needing DAS but since you aren't that familiar with it I thought I'd point this out. Have a great trip!

Thank you! Yes, it is not mobility related and she really should qualify. I know there’s never a guarantee, of course.

If they allow an exception to add your party of 6 to their DAS (so 8 total people), you may want to have them include you on the rides they want to do (like Safari, or Festival of the Lion King for example) and you use Genie+ for things your party of 6 will do like say Everest. (assuming that's a G+ attraction - I can't keep up with what is LL$).

If they don't allow your entire party to join their DAS you could add up to 4 of you. Maybe your kids (4 kids?) are old enough to go with them for the tamer attractions?
