Is GC concierge worth it?

We leave in a little over a month. I have reservations at HoJo BUT am now debating GC concierge with the 40% discount. Any opinions on this. YES, I realize a HUGE price difference but that is not a concern.

We did concierge at the Poly in WDW a few years ago and were able to eat breakfast and get by on the happy hour type food for dinner. This is probably our last Disneyland trip so I thought I'd go for it....

Any advice.....

If $$$$$ is not a problem, go for it.

How many are in your party? If it's 2 of you, then no. If it's a whole family, then it really could be worth it in convenience, time, and coolness! We stayed GCH concierge last spring and again in November. We did not have to eat elsewhere very often, but of course it does mean you have to return to the hotel a couple of times a day. Not a problem for us--my kids liked the lounge almost as much as the parks :rotfl: They have food all day long and the midday tea is a really good lunch. My girls were in love with the chocolate covered strawberries.

If you like snacks and drinks, then it's very convenient for both because you can take as much as you want.

You don't have to worry about mw'ing things in your room, there is a nice lounge to visit that has other things besides food (games, movies, etc), and you don't have to fix or clean up any of it!

BTW, the lounge attendants learned my girls liked hot chocolate and would prepare it for them with whipped cream and chocolate syrup!

We also had a great experience with Concierge. Loved being able to quickly grab breakfast and waters before we headed out, my husband loved the happy hour at night :)
They also have a fun storytime at night for the kids, and the fireworks from the balcony aren't too bad, worth not being crowed in the park!

I'm very sad that we can no longer book concierge at any of the DLR hotels using DVC points now that the villas are open. I'll just have to try to re-create it in our villa next week!

I have been wondering about concierge at GC as well - can anyone tell me how much you would be looking at per night with the 40% discount.

Many Thanks

It wouldn't be worth it to us. The Dobies like to nosh in the parks and have a lovely, relaxed, sit down dinner, preferably outside. We would rather spend the money on Fantasmic dessert viewing, etc. . .

just looked into it for the 5 days we are there in May...more than double our package price which includes our tickets...so not worth it...too bad!

maybe worth it for a 1-2 night trip, but not for the 5 nights we are there.

If you search the days you will be there on the disneyland.com website for a stay at the gch, if you click on view offer, it should bring up ways to upgrade from their standard pricing, ie to dtd view, park view, and finally it lists, concierge. hth....

Thanks for your post, I had booked the AP rate awhile ago for the GCH for a few days in May... I checked tonight and called and saved $500! awesome.

I am searching from Australia and must get directed to a different web page as all I ever get is the standard room rate and comparison with the other two disney hotels. I think its disneyland.disneygo or something like that.

If someone could post a link to the disney website that has full GC pricing options I would appreciate it. :flower3:

After all this talk I really wanted to add concierge, but it would add $1K to our 5 day trip (we did the B3G2 offer). I don't think DH would go for it...that's equal to 1 month's rent for us :sad1:

IMHO it's worth about $50 - $75 a night... not double the room rate like it's showing for me when I check.

We've stayed CL at GCH several times and enjoyed our time there. We've also stayed CL at the Poly like the OP (and the GF, YC, BC, and AKL). IMO it's not worth it in DL since you're right at DTD with so many quick food choices -- it's so easy to get anywhere and grab what you want to (unlike at WDW where everything is so spread out), that it's just not worth the extra $$$. But value is a relative thing, so everyone will have their own opinions on whether it's worth it or not.

Hope this helps. :)

for the OP from Australia, looking for pricing options

Go to the regular disney website, click on Book then hotels (only). Put in your dates, and then it will bring up the hotel options. Select one of these hotels, and you'll see a little box 'view/edit details' - click on this and it brings up the room options.

happy hunting!

so basically an extra $1000 for all the choc covered strawberries, water and hot cocoa etc that you can eat? :rotfl2:

My family would have to go out red neck style and bring in the cooler and load it up! :dance3:

LOL

Plus I can read my own story to the kids- if it saves a 1000! But I suppose if money was no issue... :rolleyes1

My DH is a concierge lounge junkie....for him it makes the trip. It is worth it to him and he is the one that really needs the stress break that vacation provides. That said GC is really steep, there prices compare to what I have paid over holiday periods elsewhere.

We are, too. That's why we used to stay CL at the GCH. That said, the "upcharge" is now too high for us to feel that we get much out of it. To me, it's all about how much more $$$ per night it is, plus the services we get for that $$$. Do we miss the lounge? A bit, but not $300-$400 worth each night. :rotfl: We all have our limits on these things -- that's why I always think the "is it worth it" questions are really hard to answer. ;)

In WDW, I really like the help that the IPO office gives me in booking restaurants and other activities -- I have found that at DL it's not really needed.

Just an update...

I booked today...cancelled my HoJo and booked concierge at Grand Californian. This is probably our last "Disney" vacation with kids...so I decided to splurge and do it. Thanks to all who replied. Know people have differing views on this.

;) I hope you have a fantastic time! There are so many factors that go into hotel choice/room category -- glad you figured out what your family needs to make this a special vacation!:goodvibes

Yes, We got so used to staying concierge for FREE because my DH was vice president of the international branch of his company, so he got upgraded anytime we traveled to chain hotels/resorts. It is hard to go down in quality when on vacation from where you are when your working! But GC really thinks highly of their CL rooms!
