Is Flying Fish TOO noisy to enjoy?

We're planning to book a Flying Fish dinner soon, but I was put off by the review in a recent guidebook calling it too noisy to even enjoy. Granted, I take serious issue with quite a few of the restaurant ratings in that guidebook, but thought I'd see what y'all think. I want to be able to talk to my husband while dining. I don't mind loud when we're at a T-Rex/Rainforest-type place, but not so sure I'd want that noise level at a signature dinner. But the Flying Fish menu does appeal to us....

If not Flying Fish, it's probably either Yachtsman or Coral Reef. Yachtsman atmosphere looks very boring/bland to me, and we'd rather have seafood than steak, but if the food is good and it's not too loud, maybe we should consider it. We do already have Blue Zoo planned for another night (but I suppose we could book it twice if it's that much better than Flying Fish). Coral Reef is beautiful, but the food was just "okay" the last time we had lunch there.

Any thoughts?

I would not call the atmosphere quiet and romantic, but it's not too loud to be able to have a conversation with your table mates.

The food is quite excellent, so I would definitely stick with FF over Coral Reef. Coral Reef was just mediocre at best.

bluezoo is also amazing, so I would dine once at FF and once at bluezoo.

Noisy? It's not noisy. There is an open kitchen but we usually sit right at the counter and still haven't found it to be noisy.

It's not noisy, just not a quiet, romantic place. One of our faves, definitely go for it!

My girlfriend and I love FF. It has become one of our few must-do's. Is it quiet and romantic as say Jiko, no. Is it as loud and hectic as CG, not in our opinion. You can't hear the person accross from you if they are talking in a whisper, but you don't need to shout either. As long as your not expecting a quiet romantic meal, the atmosphere shouldn't bother you. The food is fantastic and make sure you save room for the Carmelized Banana Napoleon, it may be the best dessert on property.:thumbsup2

I sat at the counter with a friend of mine and we had no problem conversing. Of course, we never do! :thumbsup2 I didn't find it too noisy at all.

It's louder than many of the signatures (Jiko, Citricos and Artist Point come to mind as quiet places), but not as loud as California Grill. It is certainly not so loud that you can't carry on a conversation with your tablemates.

That being said, if you really want great seafood and a quiet atmosphere, bluezoo over at the Dolphin will fit the bill.

We have been there three times and yes it is noisy but only one time was our dinner ruined but 4 very unruly kids that their parents would not control. It was a miserable meal but the food was amazing and that one incident will not stop me from going back there again

We had a very similair experience in november- our waiter was so busy catering to a circus at another table that he barely had time to deal with us- but the food was so good that it was not a deal breaker! We were by the window and it was not that noisy, either.

Everytime we have gone as a party of 2, we get one of the tiny tables by the wall/window and the noise is not too bad unless the party sitting directly next to you is loud which sometimes it happens when children are not made to behave. Disney packs in the tables so there's always the chance that you will get rude neighbors.

My husband cannot stand loud restaurants because he doesn't hear all that well but he says it's fine here.

Well, that's a pretty unanimous response. I'm with the consensus, as well. It's not intimate dining, but it's by no means distractingly loud.

For the record, Coral Reef is far louder than Flying Fish, especially if you sit down on the floor level. You're basically in an auditorium in that restaurant, and it has pretty good acoustics. Of the three you have listed for options, Flying Fish is easily the best.

Thanks so much everyone! It sounds like we're good to go with Flying Fish then. Can't wait to try it, and Blue Zoo too! :yay:

The noise definitely follows a bit of a bell curve between the opening and closing of the restaurant. As it gets full and busy, and especially when it hits the prime dining hours when people might be waiting inside the restaurant, the noise level gets pretty high, although I have been able to enjoy the food and the dining experience. As business tapers off in the evening, especially after families with younger children have left, it becomes a more placid environment again and is pretty romantic.

I have eaten there a few times at different times of the day, and always enjoy it, no matter the noise level. Such is my keen focus on food :lmao:

We went near opening and weren't troubled by the noise at all. It was easily the best meal of our trip.

I have never found FF to be too noisy. We've eaten there 3 times and each time have walked away completely happy with the experience.

My wife and I ate there in mid-March. Both of us thought it was quite noisy, but we didn't have the best table site either. Food was very good, and we will likely go back, but not b/4 trying bluezoo first!

Better late than never, but add me to the "it's not exactly quiet, but hardly noisy enough not to enjoy yourself" group.

We eat at the bar all the time and that's right next to the chefs counter AND the open kitchen and we've never had any problem with excessive noise.

The guidebook you were using is "in error":)

We've never found it noisy and the food and service are excellent
