As a retired military family, we enjoy the flag retreat at Magic Kingdom. I added it to my "plans" for Labor Day Week and just got the notice that event is no longer available that day. I did a quick spot check and it isn't on the schedule for any day in September with the last date showing Aug. 31st.

That seems....short sighted of Disney in my perspective. Thoughts? Think it will be back?

Maybe it’s just not on the schedule

I did a check of random days in August - all there. And then Random days in Sept, Oct, Dec, and Jan. And it was NOT there.

There are people making decisions at Disney that lack common sense.

My thoughts exactly. They always honored a veteran as part of the flag retreat, too. Which was nice.

We participated with two friends who are veterans, DH is as well. It was a very meaningful experience. I hope it continues.

There is a thread on the rumor board where someone said the September dates for mickey's friendship faire also disappeared from the calendar, so I would assume that this is just a glitch in the calendar.

I hope that's the case. It was one of the highlights for DH this past January.

I just checked a random day in September and almost none of the entertainment has time. The only things scheduled are the parades, fireworks and M&G's that have a permanent location, every thing else shows unavilable.

Oh I hope that's not true! My husband was picked as veteran off the day for the flag retreat ceremony on our trip this past January. The Dapper dans even had my daughter recite the pledge of allegiance with them. We have some really nice pictures from it. It was a really nice experience.

I hope it's simply a technical / IT error. I know that WDW will be rolling out new entertainment Sept. 30th (that's when the Mickey Birthday Celebration ends along with the Mouse-ka-danceit parade.). I just hope that with all the hype for SWGE, the other parks aren't going to be forgotten.

I am one of those people who likes a bit of pomp and circumstance. The flag ceremony is something I truly value at WDW. If this display of respect ever leaves MK, I will be letting someone know of my displeasure!
I like pomp and circumstance, too. And admit that I still get chills every time I see this ceremony! (Then again, I get chills every time I hear The National Anthem, too)

I know the political climate is challenging right now, but I sure hope we can keep this sign of respect. Besides, Main Street is designed for that Americana Town so it fits in with the "theming".

That's so awesome! When we've seen it, it's usually been an older Vet (WWII/Vietnam). What a great memory!!

I will say that we had some many pleasant surprises from cast members and other park goers thanking DH for his service. Which surprised him tremendously. Because the only "military" gear he was wearing was a Naval Academy Hat, which just has an N with a star.

Like PP said the September entertainment schedule has not been updated yet, no need to worry

Yes from what the cast member who is in charge of the flag ceremony said it seems he usually finds older vets. We happened to be in the line at guest services in the magic kingdom and he came up to my husband and started asking him about the coast guard bc he had on a coast guard hat. My husband is a desert storm vet and then he asked my husband if he would want to participate in the ceremony and of course my husband has always wanted to do that!

That's super! I know DH would be honored, too!!

C'mon, Disney.... You've dropped lots of balls that I don't understand or agree with, but am willing to defer. Not this one. Do the RIGHT thing! It makes you no money, but some things are far more valuable than money. This is one of them. Honor America and our noble Veterans!

I was sad when they got rid of the Spirit of America Fife & Drum Corps at the American Adventure in Epcot. If they get rid of this, too, I don't know if I can continue to spend my hard earned money at WDW. I hope this is just a glitch in the calendar.

There is no reason to believe this has been cut.
