Is Epcot F&W free to get in?

So I know you obviously have to pay for food items, drinks and any culinary events, but can you get into the section of Epcot where F&W is and just walk around and pay for food as you go? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but it will be my first time there during F&W and just didn't want any unpleasant surprises!

After you have paid for a park entry, yes, no additional charge.

The food booths are set up,with the exception of 2 new ones in Future World this year,on World Showcase Promenade-the walkway that goes in a circle around to all the Countries.

Yes,you wil be walking past most of the F&W Booths.

The Festival Center is in Future World.

You can do the shops, movies, and character meets without "doing" F&W but you will be in the same area and will have to deal with the crowds. Doing F&W to me means visiting the booths and maybe a special event or two.

No way to avoid the crowds unless you go during the week and before say 6pm. World Showcase is F&W during the event as it takes over the promenade and then the crowds will be mingling and shopping in the regular shops and still eating in the regular restaurants.

Other than your park ticket, there is no charge to walk around World Showcase during Food and Wine.

No. You can't avoid the food and wine crowds around World Showcase. They will be milling about and shopping in the shops and eating and the like same as anyone else. But you can avoid the long lines for the booths. The best way to avoid the F and W crowds is to do world showcase before 5 or so. One caveat. If it isn't particularly hot that day, food and wine often gets crowded before the evening, especially on weekends.
