Is Economy Comfort with Delta worth it?

Hello all! Myself and DGF fly out in 131 days (awooooooo! :-D ) and I just had a look on the Delta Website about a time change and noticed it was offering an upgrade from Economy to Economy Comfort for £30 each for the long flight from LHR to JFK. I was wondering if anyone had done this and if it was worth it? It's worth saying that I'm 6'4 so the thought of extra leg room does appeal, and also with DGF having never had to do a connection before, the priority leaving the plane when we land may keep her mind at rest.
Cheers :-)

We too have upgraded for the long leg of flight in July. Have read quite a few good reports so glad I did. We only paid £420 originally so even with the upgrade are paying around £500 which is still in the region of £800 cheaper than Virgin flights for just economy which is great. Prices crazy as we paid £850 for Virgin PE last year. I guess indirect will be the way to go from now on.

I've done this upgrade on a flight before and didn't notice too much difference unless you can get the front row. It probably may be worth it to be able to get off the plane quicker though.

Got back yesterday using EC for the 2nd time. Firstly the front row middle 3 seats get a lot of people crossing aisles to get to the toilet on the left(right toilet is reserved for Biz class) you also have the bulkhead infront of you instead of seats to put your legs under so I would not advise the middle 3 seats front row, sides maybe better, I did not look.

Yes you board and get off in zone 1 (after biz class) not something that bothers us but it does others.

You get spirits & cocktails in addition to the economy drinks, again no value to us we don't drink alcohol inflight.

Legroom is a massive difference, we flew out economy, I just fit in economy, DS being 6' 3" really struggles. EC is amazing legroom, on a par with VA PE. See his Blog for a pic, doesn't look massive, for small people an economy seat maybe fine but for us the extra is definitely worth it, I paid over £60pp to upgrade just the return leg from Atlanta, at £30 its a no brainer to me, 110% worth it.
I chose back seats middle both times, recline seems better and no worries about hassling anyone behind, I slept just about the whole journey this time, awaking 1 hour to landing.

Oh thats not very good news at all :sad2:

Those are the exact seats we have reserved, however they are for our children so the fact they are bulk seats doesnt make too much difference to them, however I cant believe people were actually crossing over peoples feet to get to the toilets at the other side:confused3

Thats absolutely disgraceful.

Is it not clear enough that they should walk round, surely they are walking in front of peoples TV's and across peoples feet/bags etc... :confused3

Think I may reconsider our seats as I'll end up having a right to do at 37 thousand feet

There is no where to walk around, they put a curtain up to deter you. Only other way is to walk behind all the EC seats to the next way thru but I didn't see one person do that, they just constantly went across the front row. I would not have been happy there.

Ohno, I have booked these seats for both legs of journey. My husband wanted the extra leg room and no one reclining their seat so thought they would be perfect. I have never seen people cut across front row of Virgin PE seats. Can't believe they allow people to do this. Don't know what to do now, whether to change or not. Guess if bad I will change seats for return flight.

That was my comparison too.

We used to love the Bulkhead seats in PE Virgin.

I think I'm going to change :sad2:

Wayne, Thank you for the heads up on those seats.

Just goes to show how helpful these boards are.

Seats all changed for our flight home.:thumbsup2

It might vary flight to flight but I was only awake 3 hours max, slept rest of the flight but I saw at least 12-15 people cross over while awake.

Correct, our flight LHR-Boston the bulkhead seats we have reserved are fine. Toilets located in a central position so there is no reason for anyone to cross over anyones seats.

However New York to LHR we appear to have very similar aircraft to yourself, and having now looked on seatguru and milespoints it does mention the issues you described.

Thanks again Wayne

We have exactly the same route as you and also checked seat guru. Looks good for flight to Boston but coming back from JFK I think I will change them.

Hiya

Theres a thread on milepoint.com discussing exactly the same issue. People crossing over peoples feet to get to the toilets when sitting in the bulk head seats in EC.

Can you imagine if you were trying to get to sleep and you have people consistantly stepping over you, seems ridiculous me but am very grateful for the heads up.

I would say 80% of the seats were already allocated when I logged in today to reassign ours so I would get changing yours asap if your thinking of moving them :thumbsup2

Annette :)
