Hi all,

I've been thinking of making Easter reservations next year, and it jumps up to 100ish / points a night on Easter (Premium) for a 2 BR at OKW.

My daughter will be 6, and with GrandParents. Are the Easter activities that great that we should stay?

ALways wanted to do this, but never had.

An alternative, would be to switch resorts, if you think another DVC has really fun Easter activities.

Opinions please, please tell me in the next few weeks how your Easter was, and what you liked.

Thanks, Goldi

Well let's see, an extra 100 pts. to fight heavier crowds, and stand in longer lines...? Sorry for being sarcastic but I avoid holidays @ Disney parks like the plague! Why don't you just call WDW and ask what kind of special activities are going on this Easter, I'm sure it would be the same thing next year. If it's nothing more than an egg hunt, stay home and use those 100 pts. to stay longer during a different season.

If codes like this year come out - then it might be cheaper to pay cash than use points.

WDW does not do anything special for Easter. I noticed in the March DVC newsletter, that some of the resorts are having Easter candy/egg hunts, but that is about it. With a 6-year old, save your points and go when its not so crowded. We only go at that time because DS is in high school and doesn't want to miss. It is very, very crowded.

With high points, high crowds, and the lack of the religious aspect to a very relgious holiday, I would say NO it is not worth the extra points.

I tossed this around this year and I decided it wasn't worth it. We were going to use almost as much points as to stay for a couple days as we were going to use later on this year to stay for twice as long. I wanted to stay twice as long and not fight the crowds. Crowds use to not bother me until I went to wdw during spring break. We're going down there this Thursday, hoping we don't run into too much of a crowd.

Agreed!

I would suggest going over to Universal and spending Friday and Saturday of Easter weekend there and then heading back to OKW for the Sunday thru Thursday nights. While at US you get to enjoy the front of line acces for resort guests which totally takes care of all crowd concerns. Plus they do some really nice things at their hotels for Easter. Like a giant Easter Egg hunt where the kids will get so much that they won't be able to carry it all away.

We have done this a couple of times with our 4 children and they love it.

Unless that's the only time you can get the family away for vacation. It depends on how limited your options are. Besides, one can add thier own religion to the holiday, especially if it's an important time for family to be together, sharing and visiting a local church. Isn't there a christian theme park in Orlando a family can visit?

Found it:

Not worth the points. Crowds are larger than any other time of year exept Christmas Week. Also, Disney really does not treat Easter like a big holiday as it does Christmas. For the most part it is just another spring break week. You get an "Easter parade" which is just the regular afternoon parade with some Easter themed floats added (runs for a week). Then they have Easter egg hunts at the resorts Easter morning with the Easter bunny (really plastic eggs) and those tend to be hugely crowded. You also see some Easter decorations but for the most part they are hardly noticeable. That is about it and definitely not worth the extra points for double the usual crowd.

First chance to go to WDW after a long cold winter you bet it is worth it !! Weather is great and everthing is open late. I live in New york and we are used to Crowds. Swimmmng in the pool is something i can not do at home in April.

YES, if that is the only time you can go, i also have a high school student and if they miss 1 or 2 days, they fallen behind with the homework , besides the regular work done during the day.

we figure by using the 100 extra points now, and our dd doesnt miss to much school to effect her grades and she brings home those scholarships , then that will save us extra money to purchase an add on of 400 points in four years, but the bonus to us will be the 50 something years to use the points, yeppi

YES well worth the 100 extra points
:sunny:

I was trying to go during spring break, so it won't impact my daughter's school.

She's doing pretty well, but isn't a stellar student, so I didn't want to make it even harder for her by missing, even though it's only 1st grade.

We're already missing 1 week of school in Oct, so was trying to keep the absences down.

I really like the idea of going to Universal for 2 days, although that would mean 2 rooms, because Grandparents are going with us too.

But they were planning on driving down to FL (We'll fly), so we'd have a car to be able to move to Universal.

Any recomendations as to which place to stay at Universal for Easter?

Thanks, Goldi.

I live the idea of the front of the line passes! And what kind of activities did they have for Easter.

DD will be 6 - first Grade by next Easter.

Thanks all,

Goldi.

oh, your daughter will be in first grade, then save those points for when she is in highschool. go off season and pick dates where she will have a 4 day weekend that helps. good luck !

We have stayed at both Portofino and the Hard Rock Hotel at Easter. The newer Hotel (can't remember the name, check the US board) is less expensive but they all get you front of line access. The Hard Rock is the best IMHO because you can walk easily to either park plus it is just a super cool place to be.

It's all a matter of perspective.

I teach and I can't go any other time of year BUT school vacations. To me being away from the north, the cold, and just "HOME" is worth the extra points!

I messed up one year and booked Disney at Easter. If you are planning on hanging around your resort most of the time then that's ok. But if you plan on going into the parks and attempting to get onto a ride, don't do it. It's not worth it. The crowds are very, very large.

Its a great time to go. We are going again this year, but we have teenagers so its thier Spring Break week. BCV 2BR and the weather is usually perfect, SAB in April and no pool hoppers, we have AP so we will go in the day of arrival, also go to the parks early every day but only until around 11AM and go back and swim for 4 hours then back at night. No commando stuff for us so crowds are half the fun. Then its Clearwater for the weekend which we look forward to as much or more than WDW especially at Spring Break.

we will be there to during easter, yes, its very crowded, and like the post above , we to are not doing the cammando trip, just relaxing at the SAB to and just taking one day at a time.

we went several years ago and it was crazy a few days before easter and we had plans down in marco island for easter week and then back to wdw for the next week, and the parks were empty, it was great ! its great when the kids are not in high school, when dd was younger we could get away with 2 weeks on vacation with a few days really off of school. the teachers gave her homework to take with and she didnt miss to much while we were gone.

I would say, though, that OKW is GREAT at Easter. They really do a good job of making it a special week for the families and kids. We have been at OKW for Easter week on two separate occassions and loved it!
