Is DVC really worth it?

princess: wow so yes they give us extra points the first year. and the points chart stays the same (except sesons changing..) thats cool

The points incentive may or may not be around when one decides to purchase DVC. When I purchased I got $10 of per point at SSR ($91 per point after discount) and I got a Dec. 06 UY with a set of points for 06 then in Dec. 07 I get that year's points. Dec. is a weird UY sort of in that I will use my 07 points for 08 trips and 08 points for most 09 trips. I did read somewhere that DVC would be at the Feb. 07 UY for SSR soon and I guess they would be giving out the 07 points with that purchase and then you would get 08 points in Feb 08. They don't really GIVE you extra points it just appears that way because you get them so close together. I do think that I had the option of getting an extra set of points and not getting the $10 off, but I liked that deal and didn't really ask otherwise. I hope this helps a little. Incentives are never permanent so you would want to call and ask about them.

You would get 160 bonus points the first year, but they wouldn't recur year after year.

No. The only change that can occur is that the 'season' could be changed so that certain weeks would become more expensive (would cost more points). But if this happened, other weeks would have to become less expensive. The total number of points for a given room type for the entire year cannot increase.
Thanks for the info! I'm going to call the sales guy to ask a few more questions but I have almost convinced my husband that this is the right thing to do for us. I have been bugging him about this since 1998 when I ordered our first video. I have a friend that has owned since then at HH and her family loves being DVC members.

I bought in 2000 and paid $14800 cash for 240 points at OKW. Right now the DVC price is $92. I wouldn't be able to get that price but even if I sold out for $82 per point I would regain ($19680) enough to cover my initial purchase and maintenance dues. DVC is not an investment but it is a very good deal in my opinion. I am getting my vacations now for the cost of my annual dues which are a bout $1055 per year. Getting a couple of weeks vacation at DVC for the price of 3 to 4 nights somewhere else is a good deal in my book.
Good luck with your decision - as long as you like the quality of Disney you won't be disappointed.

wow thanks ya ive decied to buy in in sep or augest. but thanks for the answer just helps me conferm it

DVC is the best thing my wife and I have ever done. The only regret that I have is not buying in sooner. The freedom and flexibility is what sold me. Now, our plan is to use the points for Disney most of the time, but if there ever is a time we want to go somewhere else, it is not a problem. :cool2: No time restrictions, no confusion, just call, book the trip with your points and away you go. I tell anyone who asks me the same thing, buy in now you will not regret it!! :thumbsup2

what is the home resort stuff about, cant we stay at any resorts? I will pick the animal kingdom one

You can stay at any of the DVC resorts on your points. You can book your home resort at 11 months out, and the other DVCs at 7 months out. This 4-month advantage can be important at certain resorts and at certain times of year.

You can also use points for some of the non-DVC resorts at WDW, DL and DLP, and at other resorts through the Concierge Collection and Interval International. It's important to understand, though, that the point cost for these options is not fixed, and they may go up every year.

My DW keeps crunching the numbers and it trying to see if it is a good investment. I keep telling her it is more of an investment in our family and not necessarily a monetary investment.

I totally agree here. When we purchased in 2005 there were many factors in the final decision with frankly the initial "investment" being only a minor one. Our 2 children (20 and 17 years old) are disney fanatics. Hopely in 10 years or so, I as a grandparent can provide my grandchildren the same memories that I (30 years of visits) and my children (since they were 3 years old) the same Disney experience. Who knows what things will be like in 10 years but we will certainly enjoy it until then with the investment in 2005 dollars.

Bougth in 2005, With our 200 BWV points the first year got 19 nights with points left in a studio. Well worth it to me.
