Is DVC a savings or a luxury?

I think what finally won me over is the fact that a studio in OKW will always be 8 points on a weeknight in Sept.
The overall points must stay the same but an exact day or time of the week may change. If there were any changes they would be minor and accompanied by a corresponding decrease elsewhere. I doubt this time of year will increase though other than maybe evenening out weekends just a little, maybe going to 9 points weekdays and 17 or 18 for weekends.

This March, we will pay off our DVC. We only bought 150 points, and that will be enough for us. Our favorite vacations are WDW and the Disney Cruise. Combining our DVC stay with a 3 day cruise at the end will be such a wonderful trip to look forward to each year. We go in September for our twin DD's birthdays. We have enough points for 4 nights (Sun-Wed) in a 2 bedroom and then on Thursday we can head over to the cruise. Or we can get a 1 bedroom and save up points towards a cruise one year.

Anyway, the resorts themselves seem like a wonderful vacation! I have been watching the Travel Channel's Great Hotels, and they just showed the Beach Club and the Wilderness Lodge. Both of them seem like such wonderful places to stay (even without the parks :D ).

So I guess for us, we look at the resorts as 'part' of the vacation experience. Without DVC we wouldn't be able to do the resorts and the cruise. But this way, we will have the vacation we want every September! Something to look forward to every year. Family memories that will last a lifetime!

As a rookie DVC member, I hesitated before responding to this thread, but I haven't seen anyone list our reason for joining, so here it is--
We consider DVC a mental health purchase!
After our initial investment in 150 points (which we paid off after selling our house in this crazy market), we will pay dues and fees for 40 years, comfortable in the knowledge that we will always have a WDW vacation in the planning stages.
This first year, we are taking my whole family for 5 nights (OKW Sun-Thurs) on banked and borrowed points-- something we could never afford to do even at All Stars ( there are 19 of us going!) Still, we will be able to stay at BCV next year by borrowing only 5 points from the following year.
We have a son who uses a wheelchair, and WDW is one of the most accessible, accomodating places we've ever been, which is essential to a relaxing vacation for all of us.
Life can get tough and stressful, but when we start to get overwhelmed, it's great to be able to think--"We're going to Disney World!"
