As a rookie DVC member, I hesitated before responding to this thread, but I haven't seen anyone list our reason for joining, so here it is--
We consider DVC a mental health purchase!
After our initial investment in 150 points (which we paid off after selling our house in this crazy market), we will pay dues and fees for 40 years, comfortable in the knowledge that we will always have a WDW vacation in the planning stages.
This first year, we are taking my whole family for 5 nights (OKW Sun-Thurs) on banked and borrowed points-- something we could never afford to do even at All Stars ( there are 19 of us going!) Still, we will be able to stay at BCV next year by borrowing only 5 points from the following year.
We have a son who uses a wheelchair, and WDW is one of the most accessible, accomodating places we've ever been, which is essential to a relaxing vacation for all of us.
Life can get tough and stressful, but when we start to get overwhelmed, it's great to be able to think--"We're going to Disney World!"
