I don't mind using points at DLH or GC as over the years it's been getting harder and harder to find good cash rates for the Disney Resorts. I don't want to stay off-site so for us DVC works great.
We didn't buy in until 9/2005 as we too heard it wasn't a good value unless you go to WDW and I didn't see us going there very often. Looking back I wish we would of purchased DVC many years ago.
We started with a 100 point resale contract figuring it would handle our DL fix each year, within a few months we added on.
