i would rate WDW as extremely backpack friendly - you can take them on most rides or store them as you ride. I'd say Universal is very unfriendly, as you have to get a locker, etc.

Where does DLR fall on this spectrum? We like to carry a small bag with light jackets (going in March) and our camera.

Thank you!

Dland not so much. It's more compact and some of the people who wear backpack's can end up banging into people due to the crowds in tight places .

Should be just as backpack friendly as WDW. They always have some type of storage for backpacks on rides, either under the seat or directly in front of you. Indiana Jones has hooks in front to hang your backpack, Star Tours has underneath seat storage, Fantasyland rides you just set the backpack next to you or by your feet. Pirates, Haunted Mansion, all set next to you.

The only one where you would have an issue is Grizzly River Rapids in California Adventure (it would end up getting soaked). But for that one, you can get a free locker (for I believe an hour) right next to the entrance of the ride. Possibly also with California Screamin', but you could leave the backpack in the locker and just come back over to that since GRR and CS aren't that far apart.

No problem on California Screamin. I took this shot with my backpack on the floor of our car, with my foot through the strap:

Great question! Thanks for the answers! WE also travel with at least 1 backpack, sometimes 2 with water bottles, jackets, and the likes

It's very backpack friendly, imo. We've had one with us all week (we have a 4 y/o, so there's "stuff" we need), and haven't had an issue once.

Now that DD is old enough to not need a stroller I always pack a backpack with things we will need for the day. Never had an issue with it in the parks. I had it pretty full on the 29th when we were there for MHP and it was fine. Sometimes on the rides I had DD keep it with her if it was a tight fit for me (like MH). But I could have made all the rides with it if I had too.

I carry a camelbak for our water needs and stuff the rest with jackets, a battery pack, and dry pairs of socks to change into after Splash. Maybe a few energy bars and almonds. And hand sanitizer. Very backpack friendly.

I always carry a backpack with water, snacks, extra clothes and all sorts of other things that come in handy. I've never had an issue with it on a ride or walking around.

I don't take a backpack during most of the year -- I have a good Baggalini that's big enough for my stuff and water bottle -- but I am taking a backpack next month so I can shove in a jacket. It fits on every ride somewhere. There are free lockers for it at Grizzly River Run.

I echo what others said about being space-aware in tight lines and crowds. My DD's friend got yelled at in the POTC line because her backpack brushed a lady when she turned around to talk to the others.

i would say very backpack friendly. my backpack is a cross-body thin one and i wore it on almost every ride. my husband had a small backpack and wore it on most ride, but took if off for a couple.
if i remember correctly, the ones i remember we took off the backpack were:

Jumping jellyfish. we left them at the bottom of the ride ( in a secure area we could watch them )
Star Tours we secured them in a pouch at our seat.

Agree about being aware of where your backpack is in relation to those around you. I'm short and have gotten whacked (not brushed) numerous times by taller guests who didn't think before whirling around or backing up suddenly. I'll physically stop DH if I think he's about to hit someone with his backpack.
To the OP: note that DLR is changing their bag check/security locations. Don't know if this might include more stringent rules about checking bags. CMs have been very nice about checking so far, and we've never had a problem with our backpack. New locations are supposed to be up and running before Christmas.

I take a backpack for my kids' snacks, jackets, diapers, etc. Never had a problem. Just be aware of space as others have said. The only ride I had a problem on with a backpack was the rockets because your backpack has to be held in front of you and if you have kids, that means it has to be in front of them, meaning they can't necessarily reach the lever if they are on the smaller side.

one thing that I would recommend is that if you have a choice use a simple backpack.

I have one that has lots of pockets and when I used that one, security wanted every one opened. since then I bring one that just has the main compartment and a small pouch on the back. that gets through a lot faster.

a few times I have just used one of those bags with two draw strings attached like backpack straps.

We also wear a backpack at DL. Usually DH is the one to wear it, but I wear one, too, if DH isn't on the trip and I've got enough jackets, sunscreen, etc. that a purse isn't big enough. We've used lockers, too, but I'd rather just carry it with me.

Ironically, the only time we ran into difficulty with a backpack is when we were at WDW! We were in Epcot, sitting at the fountain in the France pavilion and DH turned just as someone was sitting next to him and the backpack hit the glass of wine the other person was carrying. DH felt horrible and insisted on buying them a new glass of wine, but they demurred and then left. :sad1:
