Someone, who seemed to know what he was talking about, told me that Disney Quest is closing. Does anyone know anything about this?

There's been no news that Disney Quest at WDW is closing.

However, Disney Quest has not been a success. Disney Quest at WDW was supposed to be the first of many Disney Quests. A second Disney Quest opened in Chicago. With great fanfare, a third Disney Quest was announced in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Disney Quest was never built, and the one in Chicago closed.

Disney is supposedly reevaluating Downtown Disney and looking for opportunities to make more money through leases to outside companies. If Disney finds a company that's willing to pay lots of rent for the large Disney Quest building at WDW, I can certainly see Disney closing Disney Quest forever.

if it closes, it's sad. IMO it's one of the few really innovative things Disney's come up with in the past several years. I think the layout could be improved, but the virtual attractions are a lot of fun.

It would help if they'd put just a little more money into it. A lot of the stuff is pretty dated. And putting free wifi into the Internet Cafe would help with foot traffic...it would give people who need to do business some place where they could work while their kids ran around DQ. In fact ...if you use the idea of some of the modern interactive gaming consoles you could give people a bigger and better format to play games with other people on the internet using the available people in DQ as their teammates. Upgrading the VR games to use modern technology would be good.

Something...Anything!!! The safari game in the basement has mostly been removed...it was one of my favorites. They haven't replaced it with anything.

It certainly needs something new---no changes for years. Sorry to hear the safari game is gone--one of the few I liked. With so many things available there is a lo that could be done to make it more popular.

It's always been busy when we've been there - it would be sad if it closed! :sad1:

Maybe they need to lower the price of it? After spending an arm and two legs at the parks, or trying to get into a place like Pleasure Island, not a lot of people want to pay more money so that they're kids can play video games. Something needs to give. I hear they're going to make PI free after the rehab, and only charge a few dollars for certain clubs. Just like they do at a certain other orlando area theme parks night time entertainment complex.

I totally agree. That is the exact reason I have never gone to DisneyQuest. It is just too expensive. Now, Disneyquest is one of the "plusses" being offered on the latest parkhopper plus tickets. So, we will be going for the first time in March. Hopefully they won't close before then. ::yes::

Disneyquest is cheaper than Gameworks, you can spend the whole day at DQ for less than $35 (IIRC), but at Gameworks you can only spend 3-4 hours for the same amount.

Plus DQ has a lot more than just regular games like Gameworks.

Sure it is cheaper, but the majority of people that go are parents with children who are on vacation. You've seen most people on here, they have "plans" for every part of their vacation. They dont want to hang out while their kid plays video games. If disney perhaps lowered the price a bit, you might get a few more locals in there more often, and people like myself who enjoy all the games that Quest has to offer. But I'm not shelling out that much money. If they would do an hourly pass, then offer the whole day for a few dollars less than what they do, they may pull in more business. Just a theory.

For me each time we have gone it has fallen deeper and deeper into disrepair. teh first time we went in 1999 and it was pretty good. Every subsequent time we found more items not working and roped off and more games to not work properly. I thought last year they need to put time and money into it or they are going to end up with an empty building.

A price increase went into effect yesterday as well.

The thing about DQ is that a lot of the activities cost money even after admission. You're paying for more than to just get in the building.

I love Disney Quest, but I haven't been able to take advantage of it for the last few years because they don't allow strollers.

Not true.

The only thing that is extra inside Quest is FOOD & Merchandise. You don't have to pay anything extra inside otherwise.

My older DD loves Disney Quest and she goes with DH when we are there. I stay back at the hotel with DS and younger DD because as one of hte others posted no strollers. DD uses a stroller and DS is in a wheelchair and DH siad it would be really hard to push it there. I have never been but they enjoy it. I know DH has complained about parking and when they took the bus he said it was really full by the time they got on.

DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney is doomed to live without any significant updates because the are no other DisneyQuest locations that can share the development costs.

An attraction such as "Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Buccaneer Gold" cost a fortune to develop. The idea at the time was that this innovative attraction would go into DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney and Chicago, and dozens of future DisneyQuest locations. The development costs would eventually be recovered from ticket sales at these many locations. Then Disney closed DisneyQuest in Chicago. Disney pulled the plug on the roll-out of DisneyQuest to A Major City Near You.

So there's no business case to develop exciting, fresh, new attractions for the lone DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney. DisneyQuest will stagnate and close (as soon as Disney determines how to make more money from the location).

I wonder what will go into the DisneyQuest building? At least the building is not suitable for a Walmart.

I seem to recall having to buy tokens for my DD to play something that wasn't included in admission :confused3

My understanding is that there used to be some number of games where you'd earn/win tickets, which could be cashed in for prizes; I'm thinking that's what you're recalling? You can play those machines for free now, but don't get tickets anymore.
