Is Disney going broke

Y'all gotta put this OP on your block list. Makes life easier.

I

I agree. I'm so glad I didn't made this thread, because this is so depressing. I would suggest move forward.

Yes, He posts and waits under the bridge to ambush passersby.

Just want to note that since making this post, the OP hasn’t visited the boards and hasn’t seen any of the responses. 🤷‍♂️

Do any of you stop to think that the OP might have been a 14 year old kid who read some things and now is worried about Disney's future? So you all trample him like he's on fire and wonder why he doesn't return to speak again. Get a grip. You can disagree without being rude.

OP has had an account here since 2001.

Is Disney going broke - no.

Look into all of their business holdings and see if u think this is still true.
They are too numerous to mention here.

You need to research a few of his posts.
My mom is dead so, don't need anyone from the internet stepping in for her and lecturing me on how to act, so, you too can "get a grip". The ignore function can be so freeing....

What 14 year old is concerned with stocks and shares? Get out of here.

OP here,
I. Lost over half million on no dividends, and stock devalued.
Disney does not have the money to back up its ideas at this time.
last time I seen failure like this, the company went broke a fell into receivership.
so I asked , do you think they are going broke, you ask , could this be a 14 year old with a million invested.
put your money on it and ask silly questions.

You're just letting it all hang out on this one, not even trying to disguise the trolling campaign. if you have a million in Dis, then i am Mickey Mouse haha

The answer is no. It doesn’t matter how many times you ask. You can ask us again in 50 years and the answer will always be no.

LOL, I was 13 when I tried to convince my dad to buy shares of Disney for me. He didn't. That was 1973... probably be worth something about now. :)

Yes it was a good buy then,
little risky for now, will Disney go broke, hope not, short no, holding,
hopeing for better times.
DIS Stock Won't Be a Bargain Until It Has Enough FCF for Dividends InvestorPlace. Article in the investor place. like I said hold and hope.
but there has been better times than now days, for Disney, stock.
You haven’t lost or made nothing , until you sell.
you may be Mickey Mouse.

They are running low on free cash flow to directly compete with Netflix and other streaming services, Netflix also did this for a while to build their library,(and just look at how that panned out for them). That article is a hit piece from what I can tell, they are telling you something that could technically be correct, but neglecting to tell you why that’s probably a good thing for the company
And yet… if you had invested $10,000 when I told you to hold off for a bit, you would have lost about $800-$900 in value. hopefully you were listening. I don’t think they hit rock bottom yet, but they’re much closer now.

im eyeing it in the double digits, but I’d really like to see their FCF pick up, announcement of a dividend, or some good news outta the fed before I’d really go bullish on them.

the only reason I am doubtful is someone with over a million in Disney (and that can’t be your only egg) wouldnt likely be so ignorant of the exchange to be asking if Disney is going bankrupt on an internet bulletin board for Disney fans. That would be a question better directed at you CFP, and if you really have that much, I wouldn’t believe you didn’t have one.

the facts don’t line up for me.

If you had anything at all, all the facts would line up.
play , buy low, sell high I bought under $ 20 bucks, how about you.

I still own a few Disney shares. I have a FEW that are at a cost basis of under $30, but MOST of it I rolled over during good tax years so I could dump the absurd gains tax I will be hit with. I don't think I have any with a cost basis over $100 though (except 1 share I purchased for my son on his 18th birthday). Recently, I have sold a bunch off as I didn't like the company direction - Luckily I shed most of it at over $160.

But this isn't about me. Let's talk about you. How do you have over a million in Disney, I assume other stocks as well, and yet not have a financial advisor? Why would it even cross your mind to ask something as silly as "is Disney going broke?" if what you say is true. Do you understand that the Stock Market has absolutely no bearing on Disney's FCF other than being influenced by it? How on earth are you making investment choices if you do not understand that basics of corporate economics?

The questions you are asking just do not line up with being an investor. If you are going to ask if Disney is going broke, at least talk about their EBIT, or EBITDA. Add facts about their liquidity, or their D/E Ratio. Talk about their growth factors and the direction the company is headed against the market cap.

Saying things like movie quotes "Buy low, sell high!" doesn't mean ANYTHING about Disney's financial health if that's what you are asking about. For that matter, other than a few key issues, the stock price is only marginally indicative of the companies financial health.

In short, your words do not back up your claims.

If anyone is depending on Dis stock for an income stream, they are in for some real hard times. The Recession we are headed for will probably be a whopper. Jobs will dry up, unemployment will soar, discretionary income will dry up. The income from the parks will be greatly decreased. With the debt load that Disney is currently carrying, it may be quite some years before they start issuing a dividend. I believe they will survive, but it will not be pretty.

And the sky will fall, and the reservoirs will dry up haha. I think you are being a little over the top dramatic. I agree we are headed for, if not already in a recession, but i doubt it will look like 09’, employees are at a premium right now, which we haven’t seen in quite a while, so I doubt unemployment will take off, there may be other issues for the standard household, but probably not like the “whopper” you’re describing. I doubt it’s much of a drain on Dis but time will tell

I don't know AF.... I am finding myself agreeing with you, and that alone means that we are likely at the end of times, LOL.

Seriously though.... IMHO I think you are right that it's not going to be as bad as the '08 recession. There are a lot of different factors that do not compare and work in our favor. However, I DO think that discretionary income is going to drop, and that people will have to start making cuts putting a park visit out of reach for many who it was previously achievable.

Of course, we all know that parks is only a percentage of Disney and does not make up all their profit. Plus, that's almost entirely a WDW issue only. The recession itself won't affect Disney+ for example much, if at all. Other factors however, will. They need to seriously start putting up more new content.

I do believe that the recession will impact Disney overall though (Parks, DVC, DCL, and Movie Production will all suffer from cuts to discretionary spending for example). That will have a drag on Disney's numbers. I don't think it's going to kill Disney. But it is going to be an albatross around the neck of their stock price for some time to come.

After all, how much the recession actually affects Disney is not the issue. Investors confidence in how much they believe it will affect Disney IS, and right now, investors are squeamish.

Do you agree that Disney is well run and should see higher stock prices in the near future?
