Is Direct Worth It?

In my opinion VGF direct right now is an absolute bargain and a perfect opportunity for someone in your position who expects to need more points in future. If you buy the 150 points and rent them out before you need them for yourself, the rental income will pretty much cover the entire dues for all of your 350 points. I expect these points to sell quickly and many will be kicking themselves in the future for missing this opportunity.

The plan would be to rent them out for a few years. My husband, who is in finance, has a whole spreadsheet going. He actually is all for it and now I am the one having second thoughts lol.

Yesterday someone listed on one of the FB groups VGF points renting them for $23, with only the partials dues owed for year, he could be netting himself $19.5 or more per point. That takes another $19.50 off of the $186 for 200 points, now the cost is only $166.50.
We bought 125 points last week and then after going through the numbers again, we are added another 75, for a total off 200. The $21 incentive makes it as low as I think we will ever see it. We originally bought 150 VGF direct points in 2013 for $145 so this is less than a 30% increase in 9 years at $186.

And now the announcement of expansion at Poly. Well I definitely see more points in my future. Addonitis is for real.

I ended up buying my first direct contract yesterday, 50 points at AKL. I had been connected when my guide about it before the price increase so I was able to get the 186/pt pricing. Planning to the use the points to try and get a value studio at spring break each year. I could not believe how fast and easy the direct buying process was!

I thought there was a minimum you could buy when going direct?

The correct math solution for me is to buy VGF2 and sell everything else. Then sell my VGF2 in 5-6 years, which was always my exit date. It's the APs that are my sticking point. If I'm getting out of DVC sooner than I imagined, then I don't want to have the baggage of direct points.

With all the decisions Disney is making lately, I view holding DVC as a much bigger risk than I ever did before.

Since I can’t see RIV to book how easy is it to get at 7 months right now? I typically travel in May, September, and early December.
You most likely can see this now that you bought a direct contract but standard studios and tower studios are hard to get.

I think buying DVC direct in general vs. direct VGF is a very different question. I still think many resorts are better to be purchased resale, but VGF pricing is way too close to resale to make the hassle worth it, in my opinion. You get exactly the number of points you want quickly, painlessly, in your preferred UY, and fully unrestricted to use anywhere… within hours. I always said I wouldn’t buy any more direct, but VGF has changed my mind!

But would you say this is only applicable if you actually want to stay at VGF? Like, if we were really wanting to stay at BWV or a different resort, then maybe resale would be more appropriate? Or do you think VGF is just that great of a deal? (we are not current members so I'm waiting to see what non-member pricing is Thursday.....)

Buying Direct vs Resale is all about timing. Typically the difference between Direct and Resale is negligible when a new resort goes on sale for the first time. As time passes and Direct prices start to increase resale becomes a more attractive proposition.
