I have dinner reservations for the first night of my vacation and I am staying at AK- Kindani Village. In your opinion, is dining at Jiko worth two table service credits. I have plans to pay for 2 other meals OOP, so cancelling this reservation would save me money and my entire family of four are finicky eaters. Thanks

we have enjoyed many meals at jiko. the filet and mac-n-cheese is fabulous! the flatbread w/ the BBQ chicken and apples makes a nice "light" meal along w/a salad.:yay: yes i would say it is worth the 2 credits

In a word, yes, Jiko is worth two table service credits. Excellent service, wonderful, unusual food and a beautiful setting. We've been at least 3 times and always love it.

However, you mentioned that your family is picky. If you have younger children or really picky eaters, you may not find that it's worth the 2 TS credits. Have you checked out the menu and found items that your family would like to eat?

AKL is a wonderful resort - for the money, I think in IMHO it's the best resort at WDW - where else could you wake up and watch giraffes or talk to hotel employees on internship from all over Africa. Jiko may not be for everyone's taste, and if you're worried, you may want to try Boma, the buffet restaurant right across from Jiko.

I'd say so. We at there as part of the Wanyama Safari and had a chef's tasting menu. I can't remember anything we tried that we didn't absolutely love. Go for it!

The only way to know if something is "worth" the number of credits is to figure out how much a "credit" is worth.

My math is like this:
1 snack ($4), 1 CS (figure around $13) and 1 TS costs $40. So 1 TS is $23, 2 are worth $46. Now look at Jiko's menu. Will you order the equivalent of $46 or more there? If so, it's "worth" 2 credits.

Now let me just tell you that we love Jiko. Because of Jiko, we're actually staying at AKL this week. It's one of 2 restaurants that my d requested (HBD was the other). But we don't do the dining plan, because I hate doing these calculations! Jiko to me is "worth" what I pay for it, without worrying if it equals the amount of a credit.

Absolutely!

DH and I were a little hesitant the first time we tried Jiko because we weren't sure what to expect. Now, it's probably the only restaurant we absolutely have to get to on every trip.

Like others have said the filet & mac 'n cheese is to die for and is one of the best steaks I've ever had. The chicken flatbread appetizer is fabulous as well. I do miss the lamb patis appetizer, though. It was so delicious.

Enjoy!

My family loved it. The kids menu has some more 'normal' stuff on it. Then again, for the most part, our family is composed of adventurous eaters. We weren't on the dining plan, and felt that it was worth every penny we spent there.

Well, I guess I am in the minority here. While I thought Jiko was a good meal, I do not think it is worth 2 TS credits and I was glad we paid OOP for it. As far as signature dining goes, we liked the Cali Grill much better. And as far as exotic cuisine goes, I prefer Boma. At Jiko, we did not see a dessert that we were really dying to try, so we didn't order one. And I ordered two appetizers as a meal b/c the entrees that night were not particularly appealing to me (both things that would not be allowed on the DDP).

If you have a family of picky eaters, I don't know that I would choose this restaurant. At Boma, at least there's a range of options for everyone.

Yes it is definitely worth 2 ts credits. Cali Grill used to be my fav, until we tried Jiko...now it's moved to second place.

IMHO no restaurant is worth 2 TS credits unless you are on the Deluxe Plan. On the regular plan, using 2 TS credits on a single meal means having to sacrifice a TS meal on another night. Sure Jiko is an excellent restaurant but who wants to eat counter service for dinner on another night.
