Is DH Right to be Concerned? *Update*

We went for our tour two weeks ago. Jackie Traynor was our guide and did a wonderful job. We've been talking about DVC ever since and have some ?'s. Jackie told us that she would be calling us within the next two weeks just to find out where we are in our thinking, and we've been putting together a list of things to ask her. Yesterday was the 'two-week anniversary' and no call has come yet. DH is a little upset and thinks this is an indication of DVC's possible lax attitude. Do any of you think he's justified to be concerned? My theory is that because it's the weekend, there may be more tours for Jackie to give. Make sense to those of you with more experience?

*Update*

Speak of the devil -- Jackie called this afternoon. DH feels a lot better now. He's just waiting to find out if he's getting a promotion he just interviewed for (I'm not counting on it because I think his age {65} will work against him in this case), and then we'll make our decision. Well, basically I think our decision is made, we just have to focus on all the financial details. Thank you all for your sensible advice!!

It is simply because Jackie will probably not be working at the weekend. My guide, and I am sure most guides, work Monday through Friday.
(unless of course you have one of the new anamatronic DVC guides ;) )

All guide work in different ways and some are better than others. I, on the other hand, wished mine would not call me as much as she does. Some people like the hard sell and others prefer a low key sales person.

I am sure she has you traced for a call on Monday but if for some reason she doesn't call just give her a call. Shes only human!

I also did a tour and had my guide tell me that they would call in "two weeks" to check and see how I was coming on my decision. It was actually more like three weeks before I got a call. I was starting to wonder if they would call at all but they did. A while back that would have gotten me quite upset but I guess I've mellowed some over the years, for which I'm thankful.

I'm one of those people that when I say I'm going to do something in a time period, I put it on my calendar and I make sure that I do it in the time that I said I would. Not everyone is such a stickler for details as I am. That isn't a bad thing at all!

Different people see statments like "I'll call you within the next two weeks" in different ways. To some of us, that is a promise to "call in no less than 14 days no matter what". To others it is more a statement that they will "call in about two weeks, give or take some".

I can understand the frustration felt by your husband but I'd say not to worry about it. I've learned in my own case that the only person that was bothered by me getting upset was me. It would be one thing if the deal hinged on getting a call before a certain day or it would go away. I guess that is not the case here and your guide is just making sure you've had enough time to think about things and doesn't want to pressure you. Remember also that the guides days off move around some so they might not be working on that 14th day.

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they call in the next few (another subjective term) days. If it is critical, give them a call.

If you have questions, pick up the phone! Your other option is to ask the people on this board. The people here know more about DVC than most of the guides ( and are not shy about telling you.)

Although you were told that your DVC guide was going to call you in two weeks it may be a few days longer because of work schedules. The guides are very low-key and do not want to appear as if they are high pressure selling DVC to you. If you have questions call them at your convience. That is what I did and my guide answered all my questions. I had not even seen the property when I bought in 1993 and boy did I have questions. When we completed the deal I knew what I was signing and was more than pleased the first time we went to OKW. Call you guide and you will find that your relationship with them is one of the keys to the great experience with DVC.

Don't mistake the low-key approach for disinterest. I'd also wager that 80-90% of folks who take the tour don't buy and aren't even waiting for the call. I'm sure she'll call soon to see if you have any interest. If you are really interested it wouldn't hurt to place a call to DVC. Then she'll know you really are interested in pursuing this further.

if you are buying an automobile I would assume that you are spending the money on the particular brand, model, etc. because you have done your research and feel that it is the best choice for your family. A car salesperson should not be the reason you make the purchase. You will have little if any to do with the salesperson after you own the automobile. I would handle the DVC decision process the same way, not getting bogged down by a salesperson's habits.

Also, the reasons offerred by others as to why the call is a day or so late make good sense...and if you are in a bigger hurry leave them a message. Again I find that too many potential buyers sometimes worry about what a salesperson does or doesn't do and not what the purchaser's own good sense tells them is in their own best interest. And this is not limited to the DVC. Relax and give it a bit of time.

hi: call if you have questions. many people would interpret a guide's phone call within 2 weeks as a pressure tactic. ask your questions here, too, and then you can compare the answers.

MinnieMe2, I guess Jackie's ears must have been burning this afternoon. ;) I hope it all works out and you'll be a "neighbor" before long!!

Would you rather have them acting like the high pressure timeshare companies who call every day asking you if you've made a decision.

Relax, take the time to learn as much as you can on your own with help from us here, we can answer any questions you have, even check out the resale market and the difference of all the DVC resorts, maybe you might want a resale instead.h

glad to hear about your phone call. good luck on the promotion for your dh. and an almost "welcome home"
