Is DD10 ready for an Ipod Touch?

From Santa our DD10 would love an Ipod - mostly for music, but she would love a nano, or especially a Touch so she can see movies and videos also. I don't know if I'm ready for her to have her own mini-computer, though. The price isn't really the issue (this is her only gift other than an inexpensive art set & small magic kit), but I've always agreed w/ the advice that kids should use the computer in the family room so parents can keep tabs on what they are looking at. DD is a very responsible, sweet kid, but I usually monitor her use of the computer (for example, she likes to look up videos - like Taylor Swift, etc, to watch on youtube - but I'm around to make sure no innapropriate videos get brought up accidentally). I don't watch w/ an eagle eye, just like to be in the vacinity. Can you get a Touch w/out the internet capability, other than to buy songs/video on Apple? Does the Nano have internet? She would be happy w/ the nano but the screen is SO small. Would you let your 10 year old have a Touch?

The iPod Touch can only access the Internet if there is a WiFi connection available. I have one and there are very few places I can get online on it other than in my own home using my own WiFi connection. If you have WiFi in your home, you can password lock it so DD will need to ask you to put the password in for her to go online on her Touch. I don't think there is any way to block the Internet but allow for iTunes purchases, since you need an Internet connection to connect to iTunes.

The Nano doesn't have Internet. If you aren't comfortable with her having free access to the Internet via the Touch, and she would be happy with the Nano, just get her the Nano. That way you can also get her more GB for the same or less $ than the Touch.

My 10 yr old DD just got an i touch. She got it with her birthday money and other $ she had been saving :goodvibes
It does have a place to you can block them from certain TV shows, movies and music. The only thing I have noticed it it does not filter the apps. Under entertainment apps the "s e x jokes" and "hot girls" and stuff like that still shows up. There may be a way to block it too but I cant figure it out! She can NOT but down load them ( I can block that) but they still show up. ??
She also has to access a network to get internet. If you dont want her to at home just dont just her the password:thumbsup2
You can download the songs to itunes on a computer then sync her touch.
Oh course it is more fun to have internet access but my DD listens to music and plays games more than anything with it.

No you can not get a touch w/o internet.

You can put parental control on the Touch.

Also I believe, others will disagree, that at 10 it is time to start educating your daughter about stranger danger on the internet.

You say she is responsible, set parental controls and have frank open discussions with her about internet safety.

Even with a computer in the family room, unless you are standing right behind them every minute they are on the computer and you are not seeing everything they do.....
