Is David Blaine a Daredevil or just plain crazy?

He is a nut.. and who paid him to sit in the water all week?

Exactly what I was wondering, where on earth does he get the money to do this BS? I swear, any idiot can make money :sad2:

I don't understand all the hatred.

The man is an entertainer, and he pushes the limits of his endurance.

Why anyone feels good throwing food at him is beyond me. :confused3

I think he is a wonderful illusionist, very entertaining, and I respect what he tries to do. You don't have to understand it; if you don't like it, don't watch.

I can't wait to hear his interview tomorrow.

Who is interviewing him? What channel? I'd be very interested to see it.

I like to see crazy stunts like this...I remember watching Evel Kenevil (sp?) as a kid growing up. I'm kind of glad to see that he didn't get the record so that people understand that these stunts aren't fake..(the 'street magic' definitely is, but that's another topic).

Here in NYC Channel 7 (WABC) has been covering the whole thing. I think he is amazing.

IMHO...

He is one huge Freak-show.

Everytime a commercial would come on, I would look at DH and just say 'Freakshow!!!"

I refuse to watch.
I am sorry, but I do not find this entertaining.
I can't imagine why people are paying him millions for this crap.

They should have left him in the tank for the full 9 minutes.

He is an illusionist.. Wether or not this is FULLY Real, is another story. Is it cool? Sure. Is he crazy? Yup. But the tooth trick and the shoe tying trick was pretty darned neat.

Easy...ABC. There's a couple bucks to be made in the entertainment industry.

While I basically agree, it's no more of a "freakshow" than....

Jerry Springer
Fear Factor
Dr Phil
Tom & Katie
Entertainment Tonight
The American Idol auditions
The Simple Life (move to top of list)

....

Anyone want to add to my list? Most of what's on TV is nothing but a freakshow anymore. It is offensive, but I suppose if we aren't going to demand anything better, this is what we get.

I like David Blaine but that tooth trick last night FREAKED me and DS(10) out!!!

The card trick when he threw down the stack of cards one guy was holding and they broke like glass and the other persons card was there on the ground...........now that was weird!!

I'm more perplexed why the masses would want to watch someone potentially suffocate and die from drowning. Don't really care why the fool chose to try it (fame, obsession, money, entertainment - whatever) - speaks more about the people who chose to watch it. IMHO, that's not entertainment.

For me , a guy that tries to surpass his physical self and makea guiness record out of it is just as entertaining ( if more) than watching boxing ( two guys beating each other to a pulp ), basketball ( a buch of guys in short running aroung with a ball and trying to put it in a basket) , Baseball ( a buch of guys trying to hit a ball with a stick , than run aroud before the ball comes back to the diamond) football( a bunch of big guys trying to stop a nother bunch of big guys from bringning a ball across a field) wrestling( a two guys wearing funny outfits putting on a violent theater play) hockey( a bunch of guys on skates , trying to push a puck in a net) golf ( a guy tries to hit a small ball as close as possible to a small whole , many yard away) etc

All these athletes are doing something for our entertainement and get very , very well paid for it. All these sports are very useless for us , but very entertaining. And most of them require a lot less training than what Mr Blain went through. (golf anyone ?)

Completely agree. That's why I watch so little TV. I usually watch PBS or a lot of documentaries. Now that's real life.
I just can't understand what people find so appealing in so much of what's on.
I don't call watching sadomasochistic people hurt themselves entertainment.

I think so many people have become out of touch with their feelings and out of touch with compassion that this has become entertainment.

But then again, I like old comedies, classic movies, Disney movies and musicals along with my documentaries.

Well I guess I"m a freak too because I like him

I didn't watch last night's show (if someone can tell me what the tooth trick was, I have to say I'm curious) but I have watched his street magic show on TLC several times. I think one of the biggest parts I like is the reaction of the people he does the tricks to. Those Dallas Cowboys football players were hilarious. They ran away like little boys. :rotfl:

I think he's a great illusionist and don't find him any worse that people like Seigfried and Roy, David Copperfield, Houdini, etc.

I'm dying to know how he does the levitation trick he does in his street magic show.

I actually turned on the TV when the Tooth trick was being show. *chuckles* so I missed the card trick. I think that would have been interesting to watch.

As to why he tried it? Because he wanted more fame and notoriety. If a person can surpass their physical limitations, they can increase their stamina. Look at the yogis and kundinis. As for him potentially drowning infront of an audience? Doubtful, they had a group of EMT's his personal rescue squad, and I'm more than certain a few quick releases on those cuffs and chains. There was no way he was going to be in any real danger.

Ok, David had a crowd of people around him he picked a woman and put his hands on her two upper eye teeth and wiggled them until they actually broke out of her mouth, there was blood everywhere and they showed the gaping holes in her mouth. I think David then put the teeth into his own mouth (I hade my eyes covered, LOL) and then he blew real hard into her face, the blood was gone and her teeth back to normal.

That tooth trick was the coolest thing ever. :teeth: I really don't like his 'stunts', but his magic is cool. He does some really out-there stuff. My boyfriend thinks he's an alien.

did anybody watch SNL last weekend..on weekend update they were talking about his 7 day stunt and said something along the lines of "and when he comes out...everybody hopes he will do a magic trick!" I have never seen the man do anything else than freeze him self..burry himself..and sit in a glass box. Yeah so Id like to see him tell me which card i picked rather than sit in a block of ice.

and i admit..alot of stuff on tv is a bunch of freakshows...but its mostly reality TV..so that explains alot!
