Is CSR really that bad?

I am in the planning stage of our long awaited trip for next summer, and I want to know why is the CSR rated so poorly on tripadvisor? I have gone through and read many of the reviews, I just don't get it, it is rated 27 out of 27 Walt Disney World resorts.

Has anyone here stayed?

What was your thought and experience on it.

Thank you in advance!

I haven't read any of the reviews, but we've stayed at CSR 5 times and loved every minute! We've stayed at all the Disney resorts except for GF, YC and the 3 All Star resorts. CSR is in the top 3 on our list. The resort is beautiful, the dedicated bus service is very good, the staff is friendly and helpful, the location is very convenient to all the parks. The convention factor was a zero for us. The conventioneers are in meetings most of the day, and seemed to be away during the evening also. You will notice them very early in the morning getting a bite to eat, but we grab something in the parks, so not an issue. We have stayed in all 3 sections, but have requested the Ranchos 3 times because of how quiet it is, plus it's the second stop for buses to the parks. You'll hear a range of reviews from great and terrible of every resort at DW, so choose the one you think you'll like, and try it. Many people rave about the Poly, and it was fine, but we just didn't love it. Everyone's tastes are different for many different reasons. We LOVE CSR!!!!

I guess I'll be finding out in a few weeks.
I just saw that POFQ is considered 7th, and I really didn't enjoy staying there at all, so obviously the reviews don't reflect my opinion anyway, so I think I'll risk it.

If you click on a particular group of reviewers you'll see that it's the business related and solo travelers that pull the ranking down. I expect that since many of them spend half their lives in hotels they're looking for different things than families traveling on vacation.

CSR is a pretty resort with a really well done pool and a good set of options for eating. That said it's a convention resort so the feeling of being "away from it all" on a vacation just doesnt happen (for our family). It reminds me of being on a business trip more than being on holiday.

We stayed there and had no problems! Yes it's big....all the Moderates (not POFQ) are. Yes it's a convention resort....never bothered us, in fact my favorite resorts YC/BC are also convention resorts.

Food court was good, pool was good, bars were good. Beautiful resort and room décor. Just know in advance that the bus stop near the food court is the busiest and pick a different one to use.

We LOVE CSR!! The resort is a moderate, but has so many extras that it feels close to deluxe. It certainly is a resort that I recommend frequently to friends and family. It is just beautiful at night!

I have seen a ton of extremely positive reviews on the DISboard and from the comments here I have no idea why the resort would get terrible reviews. That being said, some resort has to rank 27th even if all the reviews are very positive. Ignore tripadvisor and get the straight info from people here!!

I don't really trust reviews, you never know what you're going to like until you've experienced it yourself. We thought it was nice. The resort is really pretty, and it's a gorgeous walk around the lake, night or day. The food court was okay, we didn't love it but we aren't food court people, and we didn't really find anything to complain about either. Just not our style. My kids loved the pool and my oldest had fun on the slide. Didn't eat at either of the TS restaurants but the smells coming from Maya Grill were very appetizing. We did have drinks at the pool bar and enjoyed them, as well as the atmosphere. Bus service was GREAT. The only time we waited more than a couple minutes was our one early MK day, and that was only because we'd just missed the previous one. Then next bus came within about 15 minutes. Had no issues with conventions; the only time we even saw any of them was when a group of them were checking out. The only thing we really found lacking in seven days was the service at check-in, but the hotel was booked solid and I think they were just overwhelmed. I think we're more deluxe people, but I'd recommend CSR (and in fact have on several occasions).

someplace like Tripadvisor, you might find a lot of convention attendees who are used to going to hotels that have far more amenities than a Disney resort has. A Disney resort thinks the biggest amenity they can offer is being AT DISNEY WORLD so they don't offer a lot of the little touches that convention guests might be used to getting at regular hotels.

For a Disney resort, there is nothing wrong with CSR that wouldn't be wrong with other Disney resorts of the same size and price level (biggest complaints you will see here is it's too big! rooms are too far away! has too many conventioners! Some don't like the food court because it's different in that Disney doesn't run it, so they may be using different sources.)

While it is not my preferred moderate resort, I do not see why it would have quote "bad" reviews. It is typically clean, well-kept, moderate/average Disney bus service, and has enough food service presence to suit most anyone's needs. It does have a conference center feel, but this didn't ruin the magic for me when I stayed. Anywho, anything is worth trying once... good luck :)

I wouldn't call CSR bad at all, it just wasn't my family's cup of tea. The buildings are kind of blah, Pepper Market was pretty bad, and the bus situation was the worst we've encountered, but that seems to be luck of the draw at every resort, so maybe we were just unlucky. The pool area is really neat, though, and we loved the hammocks around the lake. I wouldn't stay there again, but that's just because there are other resorts I like better.

My favorite resort. I love it! On TA, most complaints come from the convention guests that are not used to walking, they like everything in one building.

We really liked CSR. Most of our stays have been at the deluxe resorts but we would stay at CSR again happily. The grounds are beautiful, we had no problems with the bus, the food court was fine, pool looks great (we were there in Dec and didn't use it). You will never know until you try how you will feel about it.. We stayed at WL which gets great reviews. I wanted to like it but we probably won't stay there again. It just didn't live up to our expectations. We wouldn't have know if we hadn't stayed there though, Good luck!

Do not listen to reviews on Travelocity. Come here to the DIS, or other Disney fan sites to see what the REAL Disney fans think. I'm betting a lot of CSR Travelocity reviews are from conventioners "stuck" at Disney who don't even want to be there, and who go on and on about how they could get some five star super amazing "real hotel" for less.

I've never stayed at CSR, but I've always heard a lot of rave reviews of it here on the Dis, and it has a lot of loyal fans!

CSR is our favorite moderate and now that they offer business class rooms with access to the lounge, we like it even more! We were there this past December, again over Super Bowl weekend and when DH & I decided to add an extra nt to our upcoming October trip and couldn't extend our BC stay due to availability, we decided on a split stay and will spend the first nt at CSR!!!

I agree with many of the PPs that TripAdvisor's low rating is probably skewed by conventioneers not having the amenities they are used to at a typical convention hotel. CSR compares to all of the other large mod resorts. As has been amply demonstrated on this thread, CSR has a large fan base. I'm not one of them, the resort theming doesn't do a thing for me, and I think Pepper Market is one of the worst of the mod good courts. But that is simply personal preference. The one thing that CSR does have going for it is it's Business class building. Totally worth the upgrade.

On the contrary...Is it really that good should be the title? & the difinitive answer would be a Heck YEA!....

This place is awesome....& has the best combo of amenties/to pricing IMHO... A deluxe-Lite so-ta-speak...
