Is chipotle the new "it" spice?

It's everywhere! What exactly is it and why is it in everything now? I never even heard of it until about a year ago, so how were we all surviving without it? I confess I'm not much of a cook but it makes me think somewhere,someone grew too much of it whatever it is and this is a massive magical marketing technique and we all fell for it.

It has really exploded on the market. DH (who is from Mexico) grew up eating them all the time. But, being the "picky american" I am, I don't like the flavor. The smoked jalepeno favor is a little strange to me. Obviously, to each their own.

I think it is another marketing thing on some level. Someone used it, it sold well, and now a lot of people are picking up on it.

I don't care for chipotle flavored stuff at all! I prefer just your basic cilantro.

Chipotle is also the name of a quick service restaurant. It's owned by McDonald's but has freshly prepared Mexican food. It's good, but I don't eat it often.

Ha, I'm with you. I think somebody's momma had too many leftover jalapenos and thought,"Hmm, wonder what would happen if I smoked these?" and the rest, as they say, is history...

My brother makes chili with beef cubes chipotle peppers, and has for years. I didn't realize chipotles were a fad...i didn't realize they were in the jalapeno family either...i thought they were their own kind of pepper.

They have a very smoky flavor and I like them.

haha. Yeah, that's what I thought we were talking about at first. It's a pretty good restaurant though. Nice and quick food. Very big, too and for a fairly good price. I don't eat there very often either though.

How is food a fad?! it's either good food, or it's not good food. it's not like chipotle peppers got "invented" in July!

good, maybe we can now get rid of everything with balsamic vinegar, I hate it and for awhile it seemed to be on everything. before that it was sun dried tomatoes.

I think what people are saying is that no one talked about them/used them and now you see them everywhere, they are in everything, etc. Kind of like it's "trendy" to use it.

I don't think that it is a matter of good or bad... it is just very popular to use right now and to put out special things...

that is unless you are at a mexican resturaunt... then it is just normal.
