Is Chefs de France really that bad?

I have ADRs here for my 21st birthday, May 3rd. I'm worried because I have heard nothing but bad things about this place. Is there anybody who likes it or is there another place you think that I should go instead? We were planning on spending the day in EPCOT and then heading over to MK after dinner to see Spectromagic.

We didn't like it. It didn't seem to have that Disney magic and they brought out our Creme Brulee's completely uncooked (just the top had been carmelized the rest was like soup)

We really like Coral Reef, Garden Grill, Le Cellier or any number of counter service restaurants.

We had a good experience there in sept., 2007. We were a group of 6 adults and 2 kids, so we got put in a louder, "big table" section. I didn't have time to scope out if there were quieter sections. The view is nostolgic feeling to me, as you can watch people go by. Bell and the Beast hang out in France a lot and we saw them through the windows. I had the short ribs with polenta, which was amazing. More like a pot roast, not like ribs. My husband had the shrimp and scallops, which he liked, but thought the portion was small. I wasn't impressed with the calamari, but the lobster bisque was superb. None of the dessert choices were amazing. Our waitress was very sweet, and taught my 2 year old to say "Bonjour."

I think all of the WS restaurants are worth visiting, and this was a place I'd always looked at longingly as I walked by. I love that I've been there, and it was definently worth it. But next time we're trying two new (to us) restaurants- Le Cellier and Tutto Italian.

We went for lunch and absolutely loved it. The next time we went for dinner and I did not like it very much.

Eventhough we had the same server (requested since she was so good the first time!) it was a completely different experience. Dinner was very crowded and loud and impersonal, due to being very busy. And my shrimp and scallops were served to me with 1/2 of them raw! Not underdone...RAW! I'm guessing this had something to do with the busy kitchen. It was promtly fixed, but still!

Lunch was very relaxing with good food and we were catered to! I don't think I would have returned if my first experience with Chef's was the dinner one!

I am going back though but this time I'm trying a very early dinner.

Yes. IMHO, It's that bad. We ate there this past September for the first time and never again. Thankfully, we were on free dining and didn't pay OOP. The meal was bland, undercooked, and boring. The service was under par. I don't usually tell anyone NOT to try a restaurant...different strokes for different folks, after all. But on the other hand, I wouldn't recommend trying Chef's for the first time on a special occasion when you are expecting an extra magical experience. We have had much better meals at Le Cellier, Kona, Boma, and most recently Tokyo Dining (we ate here on my birthday two weeks ago and it was fabulous... great sushi at VERY reasonable prices, fantastic view of Illuminations, and they saw my birthday button and brought me ginger cake that was wonderful!). Also, if you’re really looking for something special, you could try California Grill. You don't have to have reservations. To offset the cost a little, you could go up "for drinks", sit in the lounge area and order appetizers. The view can't be beat and the sushi, while expensive, is out of this world. And then there is always my favorite restaurant, Citrico's.... Whatever you decide, have a great birthday! :bday:

We love having lunch at Chefs and it's always been a good experience for us. We've never had dinner there because if you compare the lunch and dinner menus there is very little change in items offered but the price goes up for dinner.

Items we enjoy ordering at lunch: the cheese plate, quiche lorraine, and crepes. We've never tried dessert but often find ourselves drinking a couple of glasses of wine.

Having said all that - you will no doubt get all kinds of varied responses and experiences from people here at the DIS. My advice is to go over the menu and decide if the food being offered sounds appealing to you personally. If it does, then I'd suggest that you keep your ADR. Every restaurant you dine at is a gamble in some way. :goodvibes

We had dinner there on our last trip. The food was good (not fabulous) but the service was absolutely fabulous. Our server somehow knew everything we needed at the same second we thought of it and magically appeared with it. I could never figure out how he did that since he didn't hover around the table asking us what we needed. :goodvibes

We enjoyed it very much. We had escargot, onion soup, duck entree, shrimp & scallop entree....all were very good!

My family love dinner at Chefs. We have been there 6 times in the last couple of years and really enjoyed our meals. People say it's loud but that really is a typical French bistro, they're places to go to eat, chat and socialise. I'm lucky to be able to go to Paris a few times a year as it only takes 2.5 hours by train from London and if you want typical French cuisine and atmosphere you'll love it. Their French Onion soup is just like being in Paris, it's delicious.

If you do not like loud places then you won't like it as I've never been there when it's quiet. We're going in April and looking forward to it.

Have a great birthday whatever you decide to do.

We've had delicious meals there. We really love the macaroni & cheese, and the french onion soup is fantastic.

We don't feel compelled to go there every trip, but I enjoy popping in every once in a while.

This might be a lunch choice for us. A SOOO want a crepe. Do you think I should make an ADR or it is pretty walk-in friendly?

This is our family's favorite place to eat! We love it! We went last fall and had great food and wonderful service. My DH is a food "snob," and he was impressed. DS, 14, is very picky and he loved it. I'm very easy to please and of course I enjoyed it!

We really enjoyed Chefs on our trip last September. The food was good and the waiter was attentive. (The bottle of wine didn't hurt my opinion any but I digress. . . :lmao: )
I would definately eat there again.

We've had good meals there in the past. Seems like the meals have not been as good lately. The service, and the food, has been sporadic over our last 2 visits. I say check the menu, and decide for yourself if you want to try it. Opinions will vary on this place....

We have been dining here for years (most recently in December) and have never had a bad meal. The servers are some of the best at WDW and the food is excellent.

Just drink a bottle of the Chenin Blanc they have and all of the food will taste great!! Just kidding, I have mixed opinions. Sometimes the food and service has been great, others not so much. Go ahead and keep your ADR, if you don't like it, then it's an excuse to come back for your 22nd birthday dinner and try somewhere else! I do prefer Le Cellier over Chefs de France, but again, personally choice.

Chefs is an excellent choice. We went there in December of 2006 and loved it. The food was fantastic and service impeccable. They were more than accomodating and extremely pleasant even during Christmas week.
