Is Chef Mickey's really that bad for dinner?

We were planning on going to Chef Mickey's our arrival day but after reading some posts I am a little scared. It sounds like dinner is pretty nasty and breakfast is sooo much better. Unfortunately I do not know how to fit breakfast into our schedule... Is dinner really that bad? We went to CM years ago and I do not remember it as awlful.. just typical buffet food. Any opinions? :confused3

We've always found something we like at Chef Mickey's dinner...it's not gourmet, but there are plenty of options even for my picky eater...from cold shrimp cocktail, to hand carved meat, to pasta...there's something for everyone. And if all else fails...the ice cream bar and cookies are well worth it!

I agree with the PP - it definitely is not gourmet. But it was good a few choices one in every catergory - chicken, beef etc and some veggies. You really go for the character interaction - which is great!:thumbsup2 I have a priceless picture of Goofy trying to shine my husband's bald head!:lmao:

Go and have a blast!

It was pretty bad whenever we went.
The Fish smelled like it was going bad--you could smell it
before you got to the buffet line.
There were unattended kids touching things on the buffet.
I was grossed out.
The only thing I was happy about was that we had FD
because I would have been very upset to have paid
$104.00 for 3 persons 2 adults and 1 considered an adult (11 years old)
The Restrooms were also downstairs which I though was strange.
I would probably try breakfast because it's very hard to mess up
breakfast but I guess it could happen.

We  Chef Mickey's and it is a must do every trip. Personally, I have never had a bad experience there.

Of course, we never do the dining plan, so we have not had the luxury of doing some of the finer dining options. There is something on the buffet for everyone, even picky eaters.

The last time we went we had ages that ranged from 6 to 62 and everyone loved it! Even my dad and mom (62 and 57) were having a blast and waving their napkins in the air. It is more about the interaction with the characters than anything else you are paying for.

As far as the food, the selection is similar (but wider) to what you can get at Golden Corral or Ryan's, and the quality is much better. I don't get why people don't like it. :confused3

We never had Dinner there, only Breakfast. But we are trying Dinner this year. I figure a buffet should have something to please everyone!

We had dinner there last trip and I would not go back anytime soon. All the meat was cold and I just didn't feel like the buffet tables were all that clean to be honest. I know other people love CM, but for us it was a total flop. I also think it was the worst character interaction we've had as far as character meals go.

we've stopped with the character buffets a couple of years ago - seen too many unattended children "finger tasting" the foods....

yuck.

anyway - if you go to chef mickeys for the first dinner seating, and get to the buffet first thing (before it gets mobbed) and you have a high tolerance for napkin waving, sudden outburtst of song, continous interruptions by the costumed characters...

oh, who am i kidding - we hated it - much prefer a sit-down with no characters these days - but it certainly was something you should do once if you like that kind of thing!

We've been there 3 times; food was always fine, characters funny and very interactive. Don't discount it until you try it yourself. Of course our dd was 3, 4 & 5 so we tolerated all the stuff that
the pp hated. We had fun with those napkins!

They have food there?
:rotfl2:

Seriously, we go for the characters. Really makes the food taste better with a side order of Mickey and a monorail running by. My family loves it!

We aren't fond of Chef Mickey's for dinner. The menu is fine, but the quality of the food is lacking. We like the breakfast better, but would rather have breakfast at Crystal Palace.

Our family loved Chef Mickey's! The food was ok nothing great although we loved the desserts. It was the best character interaction we had during our vacation. And I scheduled it for the first night of our vacation and it really started our vacation out great. Plus - we had the autographs of the fab 5 right at the start of our vacation so we didn't have to wait in long lines and spend a lot of time looking for our favorites. Next time I'd like to try breakfast but not sure if we will as having scheduled dinner on our arrival day was so great!

I didn't read the other posts, but we enjoy CM's for dinner. The mashed potatoes are to die for! It's buffet fare . . . not gourmet, but good!

We always do the dinner, and have never had a problem. We try to get first seatings too. We're not big breakfast eaters ... If all else fails, stick to the dessert table. You can't go wrong with that :rotfl:

We went Oct 06 at 5:45 pm for my birthday with a 3 year old and 10 year old. The character interaction was great, had ordered a cake and all the characters came over to "sing" Happy Birthday to me.

The food was horrible. The only thing we ate was the prime rib and the potatoes. The salad was wilted, the rolls hard, the soup cold, they never replenished the butter, the shrimp were slimy, the raviolis were drenched in sauce, the pizza cold and the chicken fingers hard and dry, the kids didnt like them and they live on pizza and chicken. THe desserts were blech too. The kicker is I got super sick 3 hours later, since the 4 of us had the same thing for breakfast and lunch we pinpointed the problem from the creamy pasta dish at CM (I was the only one that ate it).

We are going to try breakfast in 9 days....have heard better things about breakfast than dinner.

WE have never been to Disney ever but plan on dinner and CM when we go. We always like to try new places and if we don't like them then we don't go back.....everyone is different and no matter where you think of going you can find people who loved it and people who hate it.

Totally agree we will be giving it a try on our first trip as well.

Is LTT better than Chef Mickeys for dinner. Better quality food?

We do prefer LTT over CM though you'll also hear negative things about LTT. We found LTT to be the best meal of our 10/06 trip :thumbsup2

We tried CM last August for the first time and purposely planned a 5pm seating just as it was opening. We found the food to be hot and fresh as we were the first ones @ the buffet. The character interaction was awesome because the restaurant was not yet full. Each character came by 2 or 3 times in the hour that we were there :goodvibes My DD who will be 8 on our next trip is insisting we go again though I wanted to do something else :rotfl: :rotfl:
