Is Chef Mickey's as good as people say it is?

We always do a ton of character meals and honestly, this is our least favorite and will most likely never do it again. Some people love it though.

You can see almost the same characters at Donald's Safari Breakfast in AK and it's MUCH better. Better food, better atmosphere, and didn't feel as rushed with the characters compared to CM

I totally agree! You can get the same characters (with better interaction) elsewhere and have much, much, MUCH better food. I used to think that it was hard to mess up breakfast too but then we ate at CM's.

The title of this thread asked, "Is Chef Mickey's as good as people say it is?"

My answer: Yes, absolutely. Therefore, it's horrendous.

We enjoy it and have eaten there probably 10 times over the years. I like dinner best, simply because we got hooked on Cape May's character breakfast a few years ago and go there if we want a breakfast buffet. Cape May has always been heads and above Chef Mickey's for breakfast.

I won't sit here and say I daydream about the food, but its always been good at the very least, the characters are fun and to us, its just fun to eat at the Contemporary. This was our first WDW character meal years ago, it was our first trip and we took ds who was 10 in there for his birthday. So its special to us. Now he's 16 and he wants Yachtsmen not Chef Mickey's!

I will only go there or any other character meal if I am on the DDP, it costs us just under $200 to eat there if we pay out of pocket and while I enjoy it, I don't enjoy it that much! Frankly, if I paid $200 knowing what I know about the place, I'd assume somebody drugged me.

But I think everyone needs to try it at least once.

We have been to breakfast which was very good and dinner which was disgusting. Actually we have found all dinner buffets to be pretty nasty except the Cape May Clambake which is always excellent

We have only gone for breakfast but we really enjoyed the food. They had a nice selection and the character interaction was good.

We have always had decent hot food for dinner. Service can be hit or miss and you'll almost always have a wait to get in but we have never seen it dirty. Some messy tables but never ewwwww. KWIM?

It's not our favorite but we've never had such a bad experience that we wouldn't go again. We enjoy it once a year.

You don't go to Chef Mickey's for the food. You go to eat with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto and whoever else shows up! And, in that respect, you'll have a great time.

If you're looking for a GREAT meal, you won't find it at Chef Mickey's. Breakfast is decent enough, with lots of variety....and, really, there's so much at breakfast you can't mess up that you're virtually assured of finding a palatable meal.

Dinner is interesting. I've been on nights where the food is decent. I've been on nights where....let's just say it was not nearly as good. It was edible...but not much better than that.

Having said all that...WE (and especially my kids, one of which is only a couple years younger than you) have always had FUN at Chef Mickey's. Napkin twirling, dancing around, and yukking it up with Mickey and the gang seems to overcome how good (or not so good) the food might have been.

Keep all that in mind when you read some of the reviews here. They're absolutely right, in terms of their reviews of the food...especially when considering they're reviewing from the eyes (and with the taste buds) of an adult. I've never, ever heard my kids complain about the food....they're much too busy enjoying themselves! I'm not saying NO kid ever complains about it (I'm sure others will offer their own examples)...just that kids end up being more forgiving given what's going on around them.

You'll probably have a great time!

2 times was enough for us-2 dinners;Characters were ok,food was TERRIBLE!!!! Never had breakfast, and not likely to!:sad2:

I didn't think it was the best meal we had, but I expected it to be a typical buffet, and it was. If you've been to a Golden Corral, or other buffet type restaurant, it's like that. The characters were fine when we were there, and took plenty of time with our kiddos.

I think you & your friend will love it. Your parents probably won't, but if you're have a good time, they'll be fine with bad food. :)

We did dinner here and honestly, did not enjoy it. We were a group of adults and felt the food quality was poor as was the character interaction. It felt rushed and was very loud.

Our favorite character meal was Ohana's with our second favorite being Crystal Palace. We've done nearly all of them at this point and CM ranks at the very, very bottom.

With that said, I truly believe the only way to really know is to try things out yourself. If the buffet looks good to you and you don't mind noise, try it and see if you like it. There are many people who do hence why it is so noisy! :rotfl:

So i am going to chef mickeys with my mom, dad, and friend. So i was wondering is it good or not so good???

:cutie: :surfweb: princess: :rotfl:
Me(10) DD(38) DM(41) DF(11)

Food - not good...even a little scary
Ambience - not good, very crowded & noisy
Character interaction - so/so

Mom and Dad vote...never again
kids vote...loved it!
Go figure :rotfl:

MY immediate family (DH & 4 kids) have done & loved lots of character meals over the last few trips, but never Chef Mickey. My Mom & step-Dad are joining us for a trip this November (it's been about 8 years since they last visited) and they just loved CM back then. So I have it on our tentative to do list, but reading this thread is making me nervous that it may not be the best choice...

We went to Chef Mickey's for our 1st WDW trip in Sept of 2009. It was the first meal we ate .I remember thinking "Oh my what have I gotten us into. I really hope I don't have to eat this gross food all week" To my delight I did not. Now I have to say my dd is about your age and even she was not happy with the food for dinner. I have heard breakfast is better. The characters were really good though. I have to say we were not impressed with CP either.

Chef Mickey's Dinner has become a family tradition; we have always booked it for our last night at WDW. The food is nothing special although the desserts are pretty good. No, its not worth the $$ they are charging these days but if you have little ones I think its worth checking out. Its a loud place and its one of the few places we get to see Donald along with the big guy so its fun in that respect.
Personally, as my kids have gotten older I wouldn't mind starting a new tradition for our "last supper".

We find breakfast there to be decent (it's hard to really mess up breakfast food I think), but really didn't enjoy dinner there at all.

:lmao:Yes! It is hard to mess up breakfast! We are going for breakfast,[we'll be staying there and the boys will see the goings on from the room, and will pester us about it if we don't]
