Is Cat 8 Worth The Extra Money Over a Cat 9?

I would love a verandah but if we have any hope of adding the 4 day cruise to our February vacation we just can't afford it. We could book a Cat 11 but since we will have two young kids with us we might spend more time in the room for naps, etc.. so I thought it would be nice to have a least a bit of a view and a little extra room. :)

Is the Cat 8 worth the price over a Cat 9? Is the only difference location on the ship?

Thanks!

I have always loved my cat 9 rooon (twice 2146,2504). However I don't think I would have liked it on Deck 1. Cat 8 is best for us (5000,5514, and 5006) since we have two small kids (3&4) in the clubs. However if cat 9 is a guar I would definitely book it. You will probably at least get upgraded to a cat 8.

Yes, the only difference is the room location. Personally I prefer the Cat. 9 location because I enjoy being close to the water and dining rooms. I love deck 2 and would not be happy to receive a Cat. 8 upgrade so I always book the room I want.

Steve, we'll be in 2504 in 2 weeks. Were you happy with this room? Any noises? Just Curious!

Yes the only difference is location (and if you are on deck 1 you have 2 small portholes instead of the one big one). We were category 9 and loved it, and plan on rebooking that when we go again (come on 2007 itineraries). We found deck 2 aft (room 2606) to be quiet and very convinent to everything on the ship. I can see how a cat 8 would be most convinent with kids in the clubs (that is where we spent most of our time going back and forth to), but really it was so fast for us to get there anyways, it was never a big deal (ie not worth the added cost for me). And for me deck 2 had the added benefit of not feeling the ship move as much. I fought seasickness (the one day everyone told me I'd be fine taking off the patch and then we hit rough waters) and felt much better being on the lower decks then midship (walking around decks 9 and 10 was fine too in the open air).

We have enjoyed deck 7 for all of our DCL cruises, 3 times in a Cat. 8 and once we booked Cat. 8 GTY, were assigned to a stateroom in about 2 days, then 30 days later/30 days before embarkation were upgraded to a Cat. 5, also on deck 7.

We love the convenience up to deck 9 (and 10) via the fore stairs, down to the Lab on 5, and the walt Disney Theater for the shows right below that...and we don't have to be concerned about being under something loud on deck 3. Also, being so far forward, not much traffic, so relatively quiet hallways.

In all honesty, if I had a deck 2 cat. 9, so that I still had the big picture window, and was underneath something quiet so that I didnt have any concerns about late night noise, I am sure I would have a great cruise. But we have enjoyed our 8's, and DW, who is always counting dollars, has never objected to the incremental amount for the higher location.
