Wow, I haven't heard that, but I hope it's not true. My DH will be in tears....it's his most favorite "ride" and a must see each trip. Now I'm curious to know as well.
Over the years there have been several rumors to the closing of CoP and none have been true. The last rumor I heard was that the CoP was going to the Smithsonian. Now where the Smithsonian was going to put it or do with it nobody could explain. Unless you see an official release from Disney, don't believe it.
The rumor comes and goes. The attraction seems to remain open mostly for sentimental reasons. Word is that it isn't dragging guests into the parks as much as the cost of its maintenance would warrant. However, as much as it costs to maintain, there would be a cost to closing it too, in terms of bad PR that the attractions rabid fans could generate.

Too bad Disney didn't feel that way about all the other attractions they got rid of--much to the consternation of loyal guests! Gee, I wonder when they finally figured out that if you take all of Walts original attractions out, they'd have to stop calling it "Disney" world, and call it something else...

How many of those other attractions had Walt's name attached to it? It is officially Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress. It's the only attraction with that distinction.
Another CoP fan from PA here! We saw it this past August. Our first visit to the World in 13 years and our first visit with the kids. The whole family loved it, especially my DD12. In addition to being an entertaining show, it is a good place to sit down and get out of the heat for a while. I hope it stays.
I would hate for Carousel of Progress to close down. It's always been one of my favorite attractions at WDW. Really looking forward to seeing it again in 3 weeks!! Last time I was there we saw Stitch right outside so I managed to get my picture taken with him. He's always been elusive to me before, so I was really happy!
