Is Captain EO kid-friendly?

DBF and I are psyched about seeing the show, but we are wondering if it will be scary for a 3 and 10 yr old? Has anyone seen it yet that can advise us? thanks!

Every kid is different and has different ideas about what is "scary," but our DS8 loved it. He described it as a "goofy" wannabe Star Wars and found it more funny/silly than scary. The evil queen (supreme leader) character and her minions could be frightening for very little ones (i.e. the 3 year-old), and the soundtrack is quite loud, but I believe you can exit the theater at any time during the show, if necessary. (Ask a CM to verify this, or others can chime in to correct me.)

I don't have a link, but I have watched this on YouTube. Take a look and then you will be able to judge yourself. I hope to take my DS7 and DS10 in a couple weeks but they are MJ fans.

My 7 and 9 year old's were not scared (and my 7 year old is at a stage where she is getting scared at some things). I think they found it silly/odd more than anything else.

We had never seen it before our trip last month. When I looked over at my DH he was laughing in disbelief at how silly it is. I do not mean it was bad - it is just from a different time period/place. It opened right about the time I was starting college - so it really reminded us how 'old' we now are ;)

Okay thanks everyone! I will preview it on youtube so that I can somewhat predict if it will be too scary for DD3. We are all huge MJ fans, including DD3 so I hope we will all get to enjoy it! I am sure it will be somewhat corny because of the date it was made..but should be fun!!:thumbsup2

Is it exactly the same as the one years ago? If so, I have a very vivid memory of being pretty scared with scenes of the evil queen, witch, or something. I remember taking off the 3-D glasses so the images would be blurry at least. I think I was about 5. I am now in my 30's, and whenever I think of Captain EO, I think of being really scared. I should probably face my demons and rewatch it on YouTube. I am sure I'll be surprised at how silly it all was. :happytv:

I don't think it was ever intended to scare children but that doesn't mean it can't have that effect on a young child. Check out youtube and when you go sit by the end so if your kiddy starts to feel scared you can easily and freely exit.

It's hokey and not all that scary. When I was little, I loved watching it just to see the little furball with butterfly wings. Of course, before seeing it, I saw the making of special on tv (we even recorded it onto a vhs tape), so I knew just how fake it was.

Have they brought Capain EO back? Where is it located? Is it still the one with old school Michael Jackson?

My DD5 (huge MJ fan) loved it (several times)! She was a little frightened by the supreme leader and took off her 3D glasses midway through but begged to go again and again, so I guess it wasn't too traumatic! DS3 (almost 4 at the time) wasn't as enamored. He sat through it and didn't freak out or anything but didn't have any interest in seeing it again. I think it would be fine for the 10 year old, but definitely iffy for the 3 year old - all depends on the kiddo!

:lmao: That is the only part I remember...the little fur ball thing! I can't wait to see it again with my DH 17 next week!

Same exact place, same exact film, but now it's a "tribute."

My own two kids (13 and 10) like MJ's music, but were "meh" over Captain Eo.:confused3 The cheesiness that I found funny they thought lame. I liked seeing a young, vibrant MJ in his prime. It's definitely the way to remember him. :thumbsup2 They were more disappointed that the 3-D was not Avatar-quality. I tried to explain that this is how 3-D has always been, up until Avatar. I think if you explain that the 3-D is not as good as today's 3-D it will help- I wish I had done that.

One of my students turned 9 last weekend and went to DL. He was so excited to see EO, and came back Monday with a t-shirt and everything. He is probably easily scared (not a thrill ride kid), and he LOVED it! He bragged about how fun it was to see to all the other kids.

Enjoy!! I was amazed how much of it I still had memorized from "back in the day".

Awesome! Is it just temporary? Or is it there pretty much for the indefinite future?

It is temporary..but they have not set a date for when it will close.

I must see this because I remember when it was first opened as a child and I saw the ads for it..I wanted to go sooo bad..but we lived in INdiana at the time and mom said.."Too far!":confused3
So, I will take the awesome advice of DIs'ers and sit near an exit in case DD3 gets scared! But she loves MJ, so she may enjoy it as much as I will. (crossing fingers)

For my 6 year old daughter, Captain EO ended up being one of the highlights of our last trip. She LOVED it. Wanted to see it over and over. 2 times was enough for me and my husband though :)

I saw the original when I was in my 20s, Ok I am dating myself....I still have my Hooter stuffed animal. My understanding is the video is the same but they do not have the laser and light effects any more. Can someone confirm this for me.

Thanks,
Jean

They didn't have the laser lights, but it was still really fun. DD 5 liked it and wasn't scared. If they can handle Star Tours they should be able to handle EO. The floor rocks and shakes to the beat of the music which DD 1.5 liked quite a bit. I sat by the exit in case either DD got upset, but they were both fine.

My DD5 loves Star Tours and liked Captain EO until that witch-like character came on with the long black nails! She got really scared. She is normally scared by most Disney witches so if your children handle scary-looking witches they should be fine.
