Is Bush The Worst President Ever?

If you had asked me this question a year ago I would have replied with an emphatic NO. I don't even think I would have put Bush on my list for the Ten Worst President Ever. At best he might be considered for the Worst Twenty List. But certainly not the worst single President ever. A year ago that would have seemed like a total stretch.

But you should never count Bush Jr. out. In the last year George W has really stepped it up big time. In his first term Bush was clearly out of his league, but his believable earnestness gave him an air of acceptability. But even this seems to have disappeared for him in 2005. Bush’s monumental incompetence is now on display for everyone to see. Even diehard conservatives (like myself) are finally awakening to the fact that Bush is hopelessly inept.

True, there have been equally useless Presidents before Bush. But Bush has that certain something extra that other incompetent Presidents seem to lack. Bush’s brand of incompetence is unique in how it always manages to make a mess of everything it comes into contact with.

Think about this for a minute. It takes an astounding amount of incompetence to accomplish this feat. Even the worst presidents of years past occasionally got lucky and could take credit for something that didn’t cause widespread confusion and pain.

Folks, we are living in a very special time right now. We are witnessing history as it is being made. One day we will be able to regale our grandchildren with tales of what it was like when the worst president of all time ruled this country.

:scratchin I think you are on to something. Lets just say if he was able to run again, I don't think even his own party would vote for him !

If only you Bush supporters would have thought this last November... :sad2:

You wanted him. You voted for him (twice). You got him!!!!!!!!!

I had this figured out when he was govenor of my lovely state. It has amazed me that it has taken this long for the majority of the rest of the country to come to this realization.

Ah, the much maligned Jimmy Carter. I'll be the first to admit the man had the worst choice in advisors in recent history but the recession we experienced under his reign actually had it's start with Mr. Nixon and JFK's started in 1958 with Eisenhower. I won't even go into Reagan's spending and borrowing spree. I pity the poor man or woman who is going to inherit the gargantuan deficit mess that Bush seems determined to fatten until his last minute in office. I just hope we can somehow recover and still have a economy for our grandchildren!

I agree. I was shocked to see such an inept governor get elected. He certainly hasn't changed. :cool1:

Wow, worse than Andrew Jackson who rounded up all the Cherokees and force-marched them to Oklahoma? Worse than Martin Van Buren who..what exactly did he do? Worse than Warren Harding who saw us into teh Great Depression? I don't think so...

Yeah, Carter was a pretty bad president. But then Carter only served for 4 years. Bush's eventual 8 years in office will make Bush at least twice as worse as Carter in the end.

But I still think you are on to something jimmiej.

George W Bush: The Republican Jimmy Carter.

That would make a great bumper sticker.

IMHO there's a huge difference between an "ineffective" or "useless" president (as some say Carter was) and a destructive demonstrably dishonest president like GWB has shown himself to be. HUGE difference between the two "badnesses". LOL

Is badness a word? :earboy2:

To answer the question Is Bush the worst president ever? I believe so.

Good point minkydog. If Bush were to resign right now he would not deserve the title Worst President Ever.

But George has another 3 years to go. You have to admit that at the rate he's going he is going to give Jackson, Van Buren and Harding a run for the title. Like I said in my original post, Bush's incompetence is spectacular in both scope and magnitude. So I don't think George should be counted out quite yet. On the sheer icompetence scale, Bush is clearly a contender. So lets see how this plays out. I still think Bush can pass both Harding and Van Buren. As for Jackson, well that's still up in the air. But given what has happened the last year my money has to be on Bush. You just can't underestimate this guy.

I'm beginning to think so. And I'm Republican.

I doubt JJ will see the humor in that.

Worst ever, depends on what you take into account. I'll wait to see how the next few years come down.
