Is braiding harmful to a child's hair?

Something else to think about with hair wraps. My dd got one during our last visit at CSR. She got it in June and didn't take it out until August but the really bad thing was that we got the wrap placed on top of her hair in the side/front and it was done so tight that it had to be cut out instead of being unwrapped :earseek: Needless to say a BIG chunk of her hair was cut to her head and looked horrible while it was gowing in. Next time we've decided that if we get a wrap we'll get it done underneath the hair this time

I recieved that same advice when I got a wrap at WDW. Even with my wrap underneath... It still pulls out a chunk of hair afterwards. You wouldn't want that chuck on the part of her hairline

We decided we wanted to get braids before we went on the cruise because it looks cute and makes the hair easier to deal with. My daughter and I had our hair braided on Nassau. I just took mine out. I had my whole head done. It took me 5 hours or more to get all the braids out. It totally damaged my hair. I could see split ends on the top of my hair when the braids were in. I lost way more hair than I would consider normal. I have thick hair normally and it's very thin now. I only had them in for two weeks.

I think because they charge by the braid they made many of the braids way too thin. This made them very hard to get out. I don't know that I would every do this again after my experience.

I still have to take my daughter's out. I'm going to stick her in the shower and put conditioner on before I start taking them out and see if that helps.

My DD had a wrap done an DL a few years ago. They suggested putting it under the hair behind the ear she has very long hair and I didn't have it started way at the top. She left it in a looooonnngggg time and then we finaly decided to cut it out. We cut it at the top of the wrap and she didn't have the stick ups in her hair and because it was under you didn't see the short hairs. Her hair grows fast so i think that helped.
I have a friend of mine that braids her hair in the little braids all over (we call her Madusa) and we put baby oil to help keep them longer and then lots of conditioner and time to take them out. sometimes snipping the rubberband out on the end helps the ends for breaking to bad.

It depends on the kid too if it hurts or not...my 5 year old said it did not hurt at all. She had it put in on April 28th and didn't take it out until June 26th and there was no hair lose other than the few that would be considered normal. When you take them out just slatter them all up with condition and it makes it much eaier to take out. She really wanted a wrap on the ship but they didn't do them on our cruise.
