Is borrowing Magic Bands permitted?

We are planning a trip in October and will be staying offsite. I don't want to buy them since they don't do anything extra the ticket doesn't do, but I know my kids will want them when they see others using them. I have a friend going this summer and staying on property who offered to let us borrow hers after her trip. Obviously, we'd somehow have to link them to our tickets. Is this possible? Is it permitted by Disney?

It's not possible to link someone else's MB to your tickets.

What if I want to borrow my DD's band? She's already linked to my account, and I haven't bought my tickets yet, so if I buy my ticket and link it to her band, can I use her band? She's not coming on the trip with DH and I.

One wrinkle is that she was 9 when we went last, so her previous tickets were child's tix. I would obviously buy an adult ticket for myself and link that to her band, would that work?

If it's not allowed, or simply won't work, then we won't try it...don't want any issues spoiling our fun!!

Interesting question. I kinda want to know myself since in Aug. it's just a Daddy-Daughter trip and both my wife and other daughter's magicband would be available. I see no reason why we can't use them.

You can link the tickets to them but then the tickets could only be used by your friend. What I'm saying is unused tickets are transferable, so you could give them the tickets, and they can add them to their MDE account, but then the tickets would need to be use by your friend. Which doesn't really solve the problem.

If you have your tickets already, you could give your friend your physical tickets, and they could carry them down to WDW along with some cash, and buy MB associated with the tickets (that SHOULD work.)

That should work fine. But everything will have to be in her name. I would change her age to 13 in MDE so there is no questions she is an adult and then you will be able to make changes in MDE and the kiosks using her name.

What about the finger scan? Wouldn't that mess it up, or is it a new finger scan with each ticket?

What if I want to borrow my DD's band? !

Let me quote the back of the band.

"If this band includes admission rights, it is a non-transferable ticket.and it is NONTRANSFERABLE MUST BE USED BY THE SAME PERSON ON ALL DAYS."

The caps are just the way they have it on the back of the band.

I would say it's pretty clear but I'm not a lawyer.

Is the price difference equal to or cheaper than buying the bands separate? Haven't looked at the prices.

The example above was a child ticket. Children are not subject to the biometric scan. My son does it every time, but it's just so he can do it like Dad.

As soon as she used the the adult ticket on the band then the system will login the new biometric for the adult, and the biometric would have to be reset for when it went back to the Daughter. Unless the biometrics of the adult and child were "close enough".

Between the MB being attached to a specific person on a specific MDE and the associated finger scan ............ I would not anticipate it worth the hassle when you can just buy one. Let the kids pick their own color and now they get to keep them at home. I know when my kids were young they wouldn't have wanted to give them back. Cheaper than a tshirt or other park souvenir.

Well, that answers it...as I said, if it's not allowed, we won't do it. Thanks for your help!

If you have a Disney Resort Reservation or are an Annual Passholder, MagicBands are provided free of charge. MagicBands received for having a resort reservation don't include park admission unless you've purchase a package that includes tickets.

To purchase a MagicBand (which are optional), they are $12.95 plus tax and is in additional to your park admission.

The magicbands cost $13. I don't think it is worth all of the hassle to try to get around having to buy one. They are pretty cheap (imo) for Disney. I would plan to just buy one when you get there so you can avoid all of this hassle and trying to skirt around the system.

You cannot remove a Magic Band from an MDX account, the most you can do is deactivate it...so it can't be assigned to another account. Therefore if you wear someone else's band, it's just rubber jewelry to you. You can't use tickets assigned to them. You could use it to redeem fastpass plus, but only those assigned to THEIR account.

If the band is not already assigned to another MDX account you can use the number on the back to assign it to yours, but once it is assigned to an account you will not be able to remove it from the account yourself. And I'm not sure if you can get assistance at WDW to remove it.

Believe me it's not easy to transfer bands. I bought a special edition one at Star Wars weekend. They link them immediately to the MDE account. Accept the cast member added 1 to my email so it wasn't attached to a "person" with a ticket. Long story short. 4 hours wasted we guest services and they had to reissue another band. Couldn't fix it or switch accounts
