Is BLT really $130 now?

We were able to take advantage of a Doorway to Dreams Black Friday special at BLT and bought in at $97.20. Supposedly, the price was going to $130 per point on December 1st. Did this really happen? What are the current incentives? My guide said that they expected BLT to sell out by the end of February. Seems quite early to me. Hard to believe anyone is really paying that. Any information? As always, thanks!!

Your guide is full of kaka (About the sellout by Feb. Ask him how much he wants to lose on a bet and I'll back you and I want some for myself too.).

Yes, DVC is now asking $130 for BLT w/$6 incentive per-point for 100 to 140 pts and $13 incentive per-point for 150+ points. More surprising to me is SSR at $120 w/$6 incentive per-point for 100 to 140 pts and $18 incentive per-point for 150+ points.

Let's say if it does sell out by Feb, what does that mean? The only way to buy in is thru resale?

Sell out by February?! :rotfl2:

Our guide told us they anticipate it to sell out this summer.

Wow $130+ is crazy. 300 points would be about $40,000. You better be committed to taking advantage of it for the new 40 yrs! Might want to get buried on the property....!

No, DVC will still offer points that they re-acquire by exercising their Right of First Refusal on resales. Old Key West "sold-out" about 15 years ago and you can still buy those points direct from DVC today.

However what normally happens is that any incentives are dramatically scaled back or eliminated altogether when DVC is no longer actively selling a resort. Once they cross their internal "sold out" threshold, the price could well be a flat $130 per point regardless of the number purchased.

As for the sell-out, things are trending more toward a late summer sell-out at earliest. Could easily go longer than that if the new pricing slows demand.

I would agree that $130 per point price does seem crazy. It seems like yesterday (1999) the price started at $65 per point.

If the price is $260 per point in 2021 that will be even crazier.

We went to the 'BLT Event' at TOTWL on December 7th and they told us it was 90% sold out and was selling faster than they anticipated since the opening of the Japan DVC offices...apparently there is a 2 week wait for a guide visit in Japan...

of course, this is just what was 'said'....so i assume there is a sales factor that needs to be applied!

It amazes me that people don't take the value of the dollar into account unless it conveniences them to do so. LOL Playing the value of the dollar into the equation (I have NOT done the math!), my bet would be that you would find the value of DVC comparable to if not a better value for the dollar today than it was in 1999.

Anybody wanna take up my challenge? I really don't care enough to do the economics but I can just visualize it in my head and be relatively confident that what I stated above is likely a reasonable conclusion.

People are paying it with all the discounts going on. When the market clears up and the "7 for 4 promos" or "free dining" ect are gone.. I bet price goes up. Until people stop buying cause it is too high.. they will keep raising it. It is illogical for them not to.

So is anyone going to pay that.. with instant gradification yup..and for anyone not willing your options are resale (likely diff resort for a while and BLT at a later point) for as low as about 60 or 65 $ a point.

I know it's kinda pointless to even say this because we can obviously never prove it one way or another, but I call horse-hocky on this too. Kaka. Pure kaka.

If it were 90% sold out, where are the deeds? I'm pretty sure they have to be registered in Orange Co., FL and that the units have to be declared into inventory even before that.

If there's a stinch, something's causing the stink. We may never find it but it's there somewhere. I find it hard to believe but maybe, just MAYBE, a timeshare salesman here is lying. Just sayin'...

It would be fun to dig up some of the threads from 12-18 months ago swearing that BLT would be sold out inside 6 months. Even in those threads, many of us said it would be a small miracle if it sold out before the end of 2011 and the middle at absolute best. Do a search and dig them up. They were all over the place at the time. Everybody was crying "Wolf" and saying you better buy now or there wouldn't be a chance. I even offered a bet in one of those threads re: 18 more months or so and anybody that wanted it could have the inside. Not one taker.

BLT will still be on the books and for sale by DVC next year at this time. Anybody wanna bet? LOL

there is BLT in the resale market now - $99 sometimes $100 A point.

hey OKW started in 1991 at $48 a point and you had to buy 230 points.

it was called DVC then.

I brought in 1993. Since then have brought at BWV, VB, VWL, BLT - sold VB and OKW.

I'd don't know if the price in 2010 is quite as good as 1999 based upon time value alone, but it is worth noting that all of the resorts being sold in 1999 had the 2042 ending dates. Best you could get when buying at that point was 42-43 years worth of ownership. Now at least buyers are getting that full 50 years.

Lower dues of BLT, VGC and Aulani help, too. Costs a lot less on a yearly basis to (for example) buy BLT to stay at AKV than it does to buy AKV to stay at AKV.

I also got told by the guy at the Boardwalk model earlier in the week that they expect BLT to sell out by February. I just shrugged my shoulders at him and looked at him with that look of "how stupid do you think I am - I know there's a resale market" and moved on........

:thumbsup2 Agreed!

Can't they just open up more inventory to DVC by changing some of the cash only rooms?

Or do I not understand something?

Thomas

Maybe this was the point of an earlier poster, but couldn't you just buy resale at, say, OKW or SSR for a LOT LESS and still book/stay at BLT? As with all the other DVC properties, you're only losing the 11 to 7 month booking window.

:)Yes that is true but you have resort purist's like my DH who only want to own at AKV and only want to stay there. We did not want to spend our savings on DVC and wanted to finance, so direct was the way to go for us. We bought AKV in June of 2009 for $93 per point.
